It has nothing to do with strategy nor personnel.

    Its just simple logic.

Assuming a team is shooting 50% at 2, out of 100 possessions, they will make half of it, and score 100 points.

Now out of those 100 shots, you can see the % inside the paint could be 65%, mid range is 45%, 3 pt is 35%.

So if you take 30% of the shots as mid range, you will score 100X.3X.45X2 = 27 pts.

If you take the same % of shots as 3, you will score 31.5 pts.

Over the long run, assuming your team can at least shooting a decent % in 3, you will be better off.

And of course going into the paint to score is always good.

Its not some rockets freaking science, its elementary school maths and simple to understand.

If someone can shot 3 at a decent rate, its stupid to say they can not shot mid range jumpers.

Yes I have and his game is based upon driving and shooting 3's...

You guys become blind and deaf when someone in the national media speaks out on something that is discussed all the time on the GARM...

As far as your theory on Superstars and high Basketball IQ.. I disagree....

Wilkins had more talent than most with the Hawks and his IQ of not playing team ball killed that team.... That's just a small sample size.

Barkley already used every opportunity to bash the Rockets. This incoherent outburst of his made more clear to any neutral objective bball fan that he doesn't know what he's talking about. It exposed him in a way that he has no clue of modern bball and how it has evolved. Morey's plan worked imo.
BTW noone takes Barkley much seriously. He is an entertainer not a true expert. ESP when it comes to analytics of all things.

And when the pace of the game is faster, the advantage of shooting 3 and the margin will be greater, this is not some secret brain power of Morey, its just simple facts and that's why almost all D league teams are playing in a crazy pace nowadays as almost every teams want to see some testing results.

When the NBA puts up those Sports VU cameras to track players, that's a use of analytics.

When the NBA puts up these advanced stats sites on all players, that's analytics.

When Barkley talks, he just shows his pettiness and stupidity. Ha, their show is getting dumber every broadcast.

Morey should respond with some statistics about Barkley LOL.

See... there you go.... This is not a misconception and every GM, coach and TV analyst knows this.

This offense was tested in the D-League and then brought up to the next level.

Again, this was discussed in full on the GARM about how we need a mid-range game....

Man you guys have a short memory...

Sure... and yet he has steered the narrative, and this thread, into over-anayzing analytics-role in basketball.

So, while nobody may take what he says "seriously", they certainly do spend a lot of time analyzing/debating/discussing what he says.

Yes but analytics doesn't take ball and player movement into account, the Spurs, Hawks, and Warriors are awesome at this. The Rockets stand around waiting for Harden to initiate everything. It will not work in the long run. The smart teams double harden force him to pass to Bev or whoever else isn't making 3's and boom our strategy is out the window.

The analytics about Harden say, that basically everything he does on offense is our highest percentage option

So you know what they do? let him choose what he wants to do

Kenny Smith isn't going to get a coaching job if he continues to sit next to Barkley without seriously challenging some of the ridiculous things he says.

It makes Kenny stupid by association and I guarantee that any NBA GMs even remotely considering him for a job will think twice because of it.

That's widely known as Moreyball. Several articles have been written about our style of play.

Those DLeague teams are imitating the Vipers. We started doing it last season with Troy Daniels, Covington and Canaan. This year (ironically) we've dialled it down a bit because we are developing Capela and our 3pt shooting is not that good.

You really don't think ball and player movement is taken into account with analytics? Do you think Korver is just seen as an anomaly or something?

I love how Barkley just says "the Rockets just paid James Harden" without acknowledging he was traded here.

Or for that matter how many moves Morey made beforehand to set up that move.

Once again just shows how some of the best players have the least perspective on how to play or build a team.

??? of course it does. The Spurs Hawks Warriors etc use analytics and the result is what you see with their ball movement. Their coaching staff and assistants have seen the stats and the tape and have found what is the most efficient offence and defence system for their personell so that they are put in the right spots to take the most efficient shots.
The Rockets with their personel have found a different system that is the most efficient.

Its not about whether its a 2 or a 3 that the players took, its more about the quality of the shots.

This team has no problem with Harden taking what kind of shots, whether that's a 3 or a 2, or going to the basket or dribbling for 20 seconds and step back firing a off balanced long 2. It doesn't matter, because he reached that level of greatness.

But for all the other guys, the shoot selection does matters.

That's why McHale told Josh, I do not mind you to shoot 2 or even long 2, as long as you are SET.

Ariza is one of the worst offensive player this season in terms of %, for player taking more than 400 shots, he is the second worst in % under 37%, only follow by CJ Miles as the worst, there are 2 other Lakers (Kobe and Young) also in the top 5. * stats based on about 2 weeks ago*.

The whole point about Ariza is : most of his shots are wide open or at least not tightly guarded 3, as bad as he shoots, the Rockets will have no problem for him to keep shooting.

This is vastly different than the shot selection of Kobe and Young took in the Lakers.

Then that tells us that you also have a limited understanding of what analytics is.

    How....

Barkley, is stating that building an entire team around analytics want work... This is TRUE..

Barkley, stated for a CONTENDER our defense sucks... TRUE (This has been discussed heavily on the GARM about how bad our defense has gotten.)

The problem is Barkley stated everything from a personal aspect...

Sweet Lou Stated it best "

TBH it still is a historical anomaly that is enhanced by the system. Don't take that away from Korver.
