honestly though, if you want to make a difference being vegan isn't the way to do it. give your money to the organic products. stores (even walmart) are starting to carry more organic products and moving away from nonorganic because that's where all the money is now.

I agree with the criticisms of the dairy and meat industry but also doubt that most vegans are activists (in the way they consider themselves). Unless you avoid restaurants and grocery stores you are supporting "the system." The solution is stiffer regulations rather than abstinence at the individual level. Although this doesn't add much credibility, I was a vegetarian for 12 years and a vegan for about a year.

I might could go with using Soy or Almond Milk, despite my preference for real milk, but how could I live without meat? No tacos???

Tastes like glue, but it's great. I've switched to either buying this or their coconut/almond milk combo.

For me personally it's not just about making a difference or being an activist, I know me being a vegan means I only save like 100 or 50 out of 8 billion animals a year, but I also just personally couldn't stomach the fact that i'd be paying for/eating a tortured and murdered animal. I know I could never personally take a knife or gun and unnecessarily kill a animal when I could just eat vegetables instead, It would be so hypocritical/completely against my own feelings and beliefs.

I can respect that and admire the dedication. What really sealed it for me was having to build my life around my dietary habits. Although many people are understanding, it's still a hassle to make your family/significant other/friends adapt to your diet. In particular, I think I pissed off a few parents of exes by not eating their meals. Of course you'd be best off surrounding yourself with people that share your ethics.

Coconut milk disgusts me. Can't even swallow a sip.

I used to be an extremely heavy milk drinker, as in 3-4 gallons a week. I was very finiky about freshness and taste. For some odd reason, when I first tried almond milk, it was love at first taste. Can't explain it. Surprised me.

I remember reading something in the past that majority of adult Americans can drink milk but across the world, 75% of the adults are lactose intolerant. It implied that our bodies were not genetically designed to drink milk when we become adults and we only needed it when we are babies.

Wow, I didn't realize us Americans were a superior mutant race.

There's also hemp milk. This coffee shop used to have it but no more.
