I go with the flow at games. I'm tall. So no worries here. But I would certainly rather be sitting down and enjoying the experience than standing up at games.

By the way, I remember a time when you could hear the red rowdies on TV. They created a college atmosphere for about 2 weeks when it first started. Where did all of that go? And how do we get it back.

Why do you have to stand to be a fan. Game is not over with 2 minutes. The game can take forever in those final 2 min. The final possession fine but not 2 min.

I would stand up and just ignore him . I paid my money for those seats . Not my fault . And I really don't care about his feelings only if one of them were disabled . I'll sit down but that's it . Like a give a **** but some dude behind me that I will never see again

I want more fans like OP and less fans like the other guy. You want to sit down and watch the game? Go to Buffalo Wild Wings, your kids can eat there too.

Some people enjoy the game by standing, some by sitting. Up to them.

But that reaction? Macho dad is not helping his case, but OP's reaction is not cool.

I agree with the others, if he said something like his kids weren't able to enjoy the game...thats one thing...telling other people how they should root for the team is a no no. That being said you probably should have just ignored him and kept doing it. Guaranteed to piss him off way more.

That's crazy. I get being considerate of others and if they have a valid reason and present it in a respectable manner, then I would probably sit down. But thinking that people are required to sit down at a sporting event just because it makes you more comfortable, is total crap in my opinion. Fans are there to go nuts and create a home court advantage for your team. The players on the field/court want and expect the fans to be as loud and into the game as they possibly can. As others have said, if you want everyone to sit down while you enjoy the game, then you should just watch the game from home, or even a sports bar if you still want to experience some atmosphere.

The large number of lower bowl "fans" at Toyota Center that show up late and sit on their hands the entire game are a joke that care very little about the team, and I honestly I don't give a damn about trying to appease them.

Some of you are really good at complaining about how terrible the lower bowl fans at the games are / what they should and shouldn't do or should or shouldn't care about -- from your couch at home. Sorry, but that is so tired.

I stand after a big play (usually involuntarily) or during the last few possessions of a close game, when most of the arena is, too. But I'm always cognizant of people around me, and if there are small kids or older people who stay seated behind me, I'll slide over so I'm not obstructing their view. Most times they give me a "you're fine," and it's no big deal.

Then again, I'm also the person who is careful not to take up two parking spaces or play music at crazy volumes in my apartment... I don't lose my sense of common courtesy when I step into TC. I say all this with the caveat that I do yell unapologetically -- at refs, McHale, players, whoever lol. I guess I'd tone it down if someone asked nicely, but no one has. I do try to keep it clean if kids or old people are near me, which can be a struggle sometimes. This squad is good at inciting me to profanity. :p

I wouldn't consider this a cool story but I get what you are saying. During big time moments of a good game I'm going to stand up and cheer my team on. I'm going to yell and scream to the top of my lungs.

RedRowdies are kind of annoying. They just make noise. I don't even know if they are basketball fans. If we are up 16 they are still making a lot of noise. It just seems kind of fake.

Indeed. I make sure to get tickets far away from them. Some of them are very disrespectful.

If the TC was more like a Duke college game atmosphere with the wide variety of fans, booze, and mix of families/business folks/party people etc. There would be way more fighting and hostility in the stands.

I actually like the atmosphere at the TC. My only complaint is the large number of business's seats in the lower bowl which promote very casual (sometimes non) fans who show up late but you cant blame Les for taking the guaranteed revenue you get from securing those ticket sales super early. It's a good business move. Not really a fan/customer experience decision but I'm sure they are aware and trying to figure out everything they can.

OP sounds like he was just as much to blame for the incident as anyone and deserves to get moved. I understand his side but acting like that around someone's wife and kids always rubs me the wrong way and should always warrants security to handle accordingly.

Fact is he was out of line and doesn't have a right to blame the TC experience and Les Alexander for his own immaturity.

I could see if OP was standing in front of them while they were trying to watch TV, but not a live NBA game where a fan is rooting for his home team w/ 2 minutes to go.

If I was in that situation, I would have sat down or moved over... "turning around and scoffing" - Making yourself sound pretty bad OP..

I put others before myself as a life policy and if someone asked/told me to sitdown... I would ... never in a million years would I be condescending towards someone trying to be a good dad and husband... get a grip OP.

How can we resolve this situation to both parties satisfaction so everyone has a good time? I should probably give him this scoff and ignore him... whata dick

I'm 23 years old btw... not some old man yelling about disrespectful kids..

The man sitting with his wife and kids was wrong to HTM and dobro. Dude could have asked him politely " hey sir can you please sit down ". HTM how can you move over if those seats were not available. Lol

Another thing we all know the pros and cons of going to these games in the 1st place. So why would anybody get upset when we know the chance of people standing up at a game is very high. Lol

The handicapped get a section where people don't stand. At least, that's the case at A&M games on the student side where everyone stands.

Also, I think OP is catching a lot of unwarranted flak here. If what he wrote was true, it was the man behind him who instead of standing along with the OP in the last 2 minutes of the game, yelled at him first, cursed at him first, and physically confronted the OP first. It's fine to be skeptical of OP's version, but it's crazy that people are still hammering the OP while assuming those facts. OP never said a child sat behind him. It was a grown man.

I hope it's just skepticism of the OP's version, bc this really saddens me as a Rockets fan that so many here are even siding with the other man. I've already lost so much fanaticism as I've gotten older...and then I see the fan support out in San Francisco and get so envious. Those lower bowl people have just as much money or more than Houstonians and they've been passionate fans standing during crunch time even when their team sucked. This is stupid. I feel like I'm fighting for a passionless army.

I get both sides to this but If that was me and you did that in front of my children we would have gone to jail that night.
