And what makes you think that doesn't happen? Having a second playmaker is the issue. What was our record before adding Brewer and Smith? It seems your narrative is a bit different than reality. We are better now, no doubt, but we also had a lot of injuries in the frist quarter of the season. Yet, we still remained a top 6 seed in the West "in spite of McHale". Of course ultimately playoff success is the final judgement, but matchups are everything in the playoffs. To say the toughest conference in NBA history is "competitive" is an understatement.
Well tell me, what are your coaching preferences? What realistic options do we have to change our entire coaching staff? Or who would keep. It doesn't take much thought to tell someone what's wrong, but can you tell us how to realistically fix it.....
You just have to look at Atlanta to see what difference a good coach makes. Atlanta roster is not much different from last season and suddenly they have the best record in the league. Their roster is not even as talented as the Rockets roster. They have no top 15 players, no superstars (Horford being the closest). What they have is a coach with a solid system, has the layers buy into it, runs effective plays when needed and great ball movement giving up a good shot for a great one. We have two top 10 players, good supporting cast and yet the whole is less than the sum of the parts and that is on coaching.
McHale should have been fired immediately after the Lillard 3 if not much earlier. Instead he was allowed to coach his last year and subsequently extended. Plenty of good coaches were in the market at the time. Kerr, Buldenhozer etc.
No, it isn't. Thats ppg and opponent ppg, which is a worthless stat. Basketball reference's numbers are normalized to points per 100 possession, which is a useful stat.
I don't make millions of dollars to figure this stuff out but I can see what's not working. I want too see a championship caliber team and it's hard to see McHale being apart of that. Where do the Rockets go from there? I don't know but being complacent is not the answer.
All depends on the offense in the playoffs. If McHale allows Harden to get clamped down with double teams again, I will be livid.
And McHale's apologists will disappear for awhile from the board, then gradually return to tell us we're sucky fans, how could we know more than the coaches, right now we just look silly...
Why? It was an on court defensive breakdown that caused the 3 pter. Since then look how much our defense has improved.... but I'm sure it's "in spite of McHale". Buldenhozer wasn't available at the end of last year. Hindsight is always 20/20. Kerr is much like McHale from your logic. How much is it Kerr or the development of Curry, Thompson and Green? I would love to get the best coach possible and best players possible, but you have to be realistic. Both were unproven head coaches and were more likely to fail than succeed as you seem to have left out all the other rookie head coaches. Trolls gonna troll. Ignorant folks gonna be ignorant.
My problem with McHale is he plays his stars too many minutes. he is not good at managing the minutes and the game. if McHale was more careful playing his starters, maybe there would be 4 fewer victories, but that is the team put together by Morey. With the minutes coming down for Ariza, his game is improving overall.
http://stats.nba.com/league/team/#!/advanced/ I don't really understand why anyone uses a 3rd party in the first place, is the goal to get the wrong data?
Doubtful since you don't see the various screens the Rockets run to get certain players open. Considering where we are at the season, and how much Howard/Jones have been out, I can't take you seriously when you say you "can see what's not working". We still have to prove it in the playoffs but we have managed to do well with less... And again.... "in spite of McHale". What about Morey has given you the idea the Rockets are a complacent organization?
Damn, the guy that coached Atlanta last year when they won only 38 games must have really sucked. Who was that guy?
You mean those poorly executed screens that are beat with simple switches? Not to mention indecisive passes that often lead to no where but a guarded shooter. My comment about complacency was towards the coaching. Morey clearly treats the team like it's 2k. We are going to have to agree to disagree on this issue. I'm hoping come playoff time McHale turns this thread into a joke. If he doesn't then I expect to see the same McHale apologists here.
He was the Head Coach in his rookie year who's #1 player missed 53 games of the season and the play offs. And still managed to take the #1 seed Indiana to 7 games. What year is McHale in again?
If you told me the Rockets would be 35-15 with Dwight Howard missing 18 games after Asik left, I would have been ecstatic. Lots of teams with less injuries, roster turnover and more big name superstars are not doing as well. See: the Clippers. McHale should get some credit instead of the petty BS he gets dumped on him by the so-called fanbase. A lot of you dicks would rather the team lose so you could be right about McHale.
Why does it matter what year the coach is in? Why does it matter that a player missed 53 games? I mean, injuries don't seem to matter when criticizing McHale so I'm wondering why they would matter for Budenholzer. They took Indiana to 7 games? Did they win or not?
The individuals giving out anon passive aggressive rep are the biggest cowards on this site. I don't think they realize that reporting it makes you lose your rep privileges. Luckily for you, it just put me 2 pts away from next bar
Freak, you generally have some good points, how do you see Mchale implementing plays and more discipline to the offense with the way things have been running? Thats my biggest concern since it becomes apparent in the post season. Also, Anyone cirticizeing me for "hating", should go back 2 yrs on this thread to where I was one of Mchale biggest supporters in here.
