Are you ****ing kidding me? We don't have an identity. Every single non home broadcast I watch emphasizes our identity non stop. Every single nationally televised game they ram the threes and lay ups stats down our throats. We have more identity than any team in the league. We get plenty of open looks, plenty. Ours guys just aren't hitting them. This personnel issue, not a coach issue.
Poor wording. What happens when those threes don't fall? We are head and shoulders over other teams when it comes to how many of our points come from threes. I remember at one point and time it was hovering around an unprecedented %40. We failed to show versatility like the read and react offense that Adelman's team displayed. They're going to be exposed in the playoffs when defenses really close out. We don't have much of a counter-punch. Our philosophy is a gimmick until proven otherwise but that's more on Morey. That's why McHale is here because he is a yes man who appeals to players.
Also, the Rockets team identity is basically Harden scoring and creating three point shots for others. He leads the league in assist for threes which great. But they better have something up their sleeves come playoff time because that's too easy for a championship caliber team to stop.
Any system collapses when shots don't fall, that's a silly argument. Despite the highly perpetuated myth, the game doesn't change much in the playoffs.
The spurs and hawks disagree with you on your gimmick theory. They just have better shooters and smarter coaches from an x's and o's point of view. You'll probably find more teams that adhere to that philosophy. You also understand our player personnel dictates what we do too. We are 3rd in the toughest conference ever presently, it's pretty hard to argue against those results.
The difference is we keep hoisting up shots instead trying find something closer open look. The Spurs move the ball around way better than we do.
Yeah, exactly... We look for the same shots but they way we create them are completely different. The Hawks actually have a pg though and a guy like Horford who can keep the ball moving. I'm not going to compare the Rockets to the Spurs or the Hawks because one is a proven team and the other has the personnel Morey wants. For a team that launches so many threes we lack pure shooters.
I'd much rather have a second legit playmaker/PG than replace McHale with some yet to be determined coach. Hopefully, you can understand from your response it's not a gimmicky system.
The way we execute is gimmicky. Relying solely on Harden is not going to cut it. When you have guys like Beverley and Ariza then you need a better system in place to hide their weaknesses. These turnovers are going to kill us if they don't become more efficient. Now getting that second playmaker or real pg could potentially negate McHale's coaching deficiencies. Harden has been making McHale look decent all year. So adding someone else could be the tipping point for their offense. And it looks like that is the only option going forward because McHale is probably not going anywhere. There is not exactly a long list of unemployed proven coaches out there.
A system still requires a ball handler... A system can only be as good as it's players and you'll have a hard time convincing me our role players are underachieving. We've had high turnovers since we sped up the pace under Adelman, which is a consequence of pace. We overperformed under McHale without Harden. Our offense has gotten better since we started this season. It seems your complaint is we aren't perfect so there doesn't seem much I can tell you to make you understand the reality. Again we are 3rd in the toughest conference in history, if you can't give credit where it's due then it's on you.
Blah, blah, blah. Seriously, what do you advocate? Firing a coach that has the third best record in the Conference? Firing a coach that has established a great team chemistry? Firing a coach that has navigated us through all these lineups and injuries? Seriously, you actually advocate firing McHale right now? What does it accomplish to rant and rave about something that has no chance of happening. I suggest you tilt at windmills that have a chance of spinning. This one ain't going anywhere in the immediate future.
Setting different variations of screens to get open looks or create lanes to attack the rim does not require a skilled ball handler. Passing the ball around the perimeter once the defense has been broken down does not require a skilled ball handler. Over-performed? That's very subjective. Harden and D-Mo started off in a slump and our bench was deplorable before we added Brewer and Smith. I give credit to McHale for D-Mo's growth but not the overall progression that has more to do with Harden and recent additions. Also, I care more about playoff success than seeding. Dirk and the Spurs are aging, OKC has struggled to come back from their injuries and the Clippers seem to be regressing a bit. The West is competitive as far seeding goes but teams are slipping and Rockets need to capitalize.
False. We have plenty of post up options, pick and roll plays, alley oop plays designed to get good looks near the basket. We aren't the Spurs, we will never Spurs, we arent even trying to build our team like the spurs. Trying to compare ourselves to the spurs is a fools errand.
And yet we have so many turnovers... They're not very efficient. It's a fools errand because we don't have the right coaching personnel. Spurs are dangerous; I think they only have one player averaging over 30 minutes. The ability to create system players and get the most out of your team is a benefit of having a great coach.
Remember when Mike brown was considered a good coach(Even got coach of the year)? That's because Lebron and the cavs were killing it in the regular season however playoff is a different ball game and if we continue building on the poor habits we have now then sadly it could be another first round exit
