Those teams were winning championships while the Rockets are still trying to get out of the first round...
No they are 12th in defense. They were 3rd in defense but the fall back and I think is due to the Warriors games. Because ever since those losses to the Warriors in January, they fell to 12th on defense.
They are currently 12th on offense and 6th on defense. You can find those numbers here: http://www.basketball-reference.com/teams/HOU/2015.html
Next time you drive drunk, and don't get caught...let me know how much of a success you think it was. You'd think the delusion would have passed after the wakeup call transition from the RS --> PS last year.
I was hard on him and still think we can do better as far as getting a different coach but I have to admit that this teams record with the injuries exceeds my expectations. I have to give credit where credit is due but Morey and Harden deserve the same amount. McHale is growing on me just a tad bit.
I keep reading these posts saying we weren't getting anything off the Harden double teams. Were people just not watching? We got wide open corner 3 after wide open corner 3. The problem is we only made 2-3. NO coach is going to argue with wide open corner 3s. It is the 2nd most favorable shot to take in basketball. If you wanna complain about Dmo being left out then fine, but what we got out of those double teams was not a problem.
You know you are hurting when you quote Bill Simmons on basketball. So let's get this straight: you believe there is ANYTHING about basketball that Bill Simmons knows better than Kevin McHale? Hint: when Bill Simmons says "I don't know," that does not mean that he knows something. And if you're saying "I don't know what McHale is doing," that does not prove that you know something either.
This. DMo is a good defender but the Bucks trotted out a more athletlc line-up that DMo couldn't defend well. Oh, and the Greek Freak is quite the player.
Then go to a Zone, you know coach. McHale is not a good coach, a good record does not mean he coaches well as we could be even better with someone like Karl. DD
Maybe a few games we'd win with Karl, I'm sure Morey has a formula for such thing. I'd prefer Karl too, but I'm not sure person who dwells on "what if". As for going to zone, obviously we will never know the conversation between McHale and the Defense Coordinator (who btw have turned the Rockets into a top 10 defensive team). Obviously, they decided to match the Bucks athleticism. I think you are forgetting how our shots weren't falling in the 4th, especially from the 3 pt line.
Neither a zone nor a post up player is a counter move to the Bucks trapping Harden as he crosses the half court line. They played it like they should have and they won the game. I know you are a Dmo homer, but his lack of rebounding was a liability last night and McHale made the correct call.
That really is laughable, hilarious. So you think Karl could have seamlessly integrated Brewer and Josh into the rotations? You think Karl could have navigated through all of our injuries and still produced an outstanding record? Laughable, simply laughable. The chemistry right now on this team is as good as any Rockets team I have ever seen...and I've watched them all since San Diego. Better is the enemy of good.
Last year we had enough talent and home court advantage. LA going off for a couple games is not an excuse.
Mark Jackson did well with Golden State too... But I'm impressed with the record as well. Really think it has more to do with Harden and moves Morey has made though. The playoffs is where McHale will have to win me over and hopefully he will... I'm just not holding my breath.
How many games were we ahead of the Blazers? It's not like we were head and shoulders above them and it was literally the closet series of the playoffs when looking at margin of winning. It ended up being a coin flip and we lost. I doubt anyone here would take McHale over a well established coach but the reality is that there aren't any out there. This forum, and literally every other sports team, puts unnecessary blame on the head coach.
larvs8 used B-R's stats for 12 and 6. ESPN has it at 13 and 3, offense and defense. I believe the discrepancy comes from estimating possessions. Either way, our defense is really good. And I don't understand why you would ignore every single game after the Warriors game. You do realize the regular season is still ongoing, right? Why would you just arbitrary cutoff the season and judge a team after only 40 games?
Reading through your posts remind me of the quote "If you run into an ******* in the morning, you ran into an *******. If you run into assholes all day, you’re the *******." You complain about McHale after every game, wins or loss. Everything he does is always wrong in your eyes. So I ask you. At this point, perhaps you should look into the mirror to see who is the true problem at hand?
I never blamed JVG or Adelman because they at least had an identity and a game plan. McHale lacks the x's and o's needed for the playoffs so better assistant coaches are needed. I don't think we have the right personnel. Hell, I didn't even Kubiak was all that bad albeit predictable and conservative.
What identity did we have under those coaches that we didn't have under McHale? JVG = defensive identity and Adelman = offensive identity. Seems to me McHale carried over Adelman's offensive identity minus his offensive system and relied more on P&R (until we got Howard). We generally have good assistants, remember we lost our defensive assistant at the end of last season. Obviously McHale's weakness is Xs and Os but he does seem better at match ups and adjustments this year. It remains to be seen what will happen in the playoffs. However, it's not like we had any good, legit options heading into the season.
