Agreed. Also agreed with others that say people stand at sporting events and if that bothers you - stay at home. Also agree with others that it sounds like you had a couple drinks.

There were plenty of empty seats tonight. At start of the game at least half of the game half the seats were empty. By the end maybe 20% of seats were empty. You could have just moved.

    Dude sweared at him first.

All I know is if you're cursing around your kids then best believe I'm not going to hold them to any language standards. **** that. Glad you stood up for true fans. If you want to sit down go to the bar or opera. Better yet buy court side tickets.

How does one guy in one seat block the view of 4 people's seats behind him?

When the PA blasts "Alllllright HHHHouston, onnnn your feet!" and they throw videos on the screens with players doing the "stand up" arm gesture, and Jason Terry on the bench is turning to the crowd and doing the "stand up" arm gesture, are all these things proof of the urbanization of the Toyota Center as attacks on good ol' fashion family values? Back when men were men, we'd teach our sons the value of a soft comfy seat and the appropriateness of a light golf clap.

I'm just one of those people that thinks it's your right and your duty to stand up and up your rooting game in the final few possessions of a tight game. If you are physically unable to stand, then honestly you should be in the ADA handicap section near the top. Down in the standing seats, you are a fire hazard.

To each their own though. If he wanted to teach his children the values of sitting, and the values of being annoyed by a fan at a game 3 seats to the side of them standing and cheering, then he could have shifted to one of the multitude of empty seats left available by our wonderful, loyal lower bowl fans.

Now, I wouldn't have flipped a guys glasses or f-bombed in front of his kids. But I'm also not judging the guy. It's a sports game and the guy was provoked by a guy who thought he was entitled to take away a fan's right and duty to root for his home team at a live sporting event.

I'm readying these forums, and this is why Houston TC fans are a joke.

For myself, I'm always standing (I'm normally near the Rowdies.) I won't sit down for ****, say whatever you want, but I don't come to games to hear what idiots around me gotta say.

Then listening to your story, this was in the last 2 mins of the game? That's normally when folks try to show they care by getting out their seats and getting loud.

I took my 9 yr old daughter to a game and the guys behind me were talking in a graphic way about how they wanted to f that cheerleader and were undressing every attractive woman that walked down the steps. All I did was turn around and say my 9 yr old daughter is sitting right in front of you, can you tone it down?! Didn't have a problem for the rest of the game.

If it were me, when the guy ask me to sit down, I would turn around and yell GO ROCKETS! Every time he said it! Gotta be a good example for the kids.

Obviously this is the biased version of the story so no idea what to think... If he had told you to sit the f down or something like that... yes, you have every right to get defensive. But your version just mentions him 'telling' you to sit down. Maybe he just wanted his kids to see the game? He calls you an a$$hole which is hardly profanity anymore, and you respond with f**king. Maybe there's more to it and the dude was a real dick about everything.

Personally, I would have just moved somewhere else or sat down instead of ruining the day for a family of four on a night out.

Edit - Posted and saw the post above mine... Sigh... Pissing on kids? Really Clutchfans?

When I go to a sporting event or even a concert, I get annoyed by people that want to standup either all through the event or at inopportune times...

I'm 6'3 so I try to be courteous to those around me cause I know, depending on the venue, if I stand, the 5'8 person behind me ain't gonna see nothing - even if they standup too...

All that said, the last 2 minutes, or when the entertainer asks everyone to stand up..., is another matter....

Both are still a profanities though...

As long as he was not being obnoxious and was just cheering for the team then I don't see why he should have moved. OP paid to go to the game. He has every right to cheer for the team - without being obnoxious of course. If him standing bothered them then the family should have moved. There were only two minutes left, everyone should be standing and cheering. I still don't get why it escalated the way it did.

I always wanted the fans to be louder and you know... at least arrive on time! The arena looks pretty pathetic during the first quarter.

2 minutes left in a closeish game you need to be standing up. As far as im concerned you are the one with your head up your ass.

Last game I went to, I was 8 or so rows back from the Red Rowdies. They stand the whole time. They encourage everyone around them to stand the whole time. They convinced the guys in front of me to stand, blocking my view. I'm 6'2". I could've stood up and got a better view, but (a) I was too lazy (b)did plenty of standing and applauding earlier throughout the game in 5 second bouts when something awesome happened (c) I could see between them and around them (d) it was the end of the game and we were already beating the visiting team soundly.

Yeah it was a little more difficult to see with the guys in front of me standing, but I didn't get upset from it or ask/tell them to sit down. Standing is like The Wave. It sort of puts it on everyone else to stand up as well. Seats are terraced for a reason. Stand up and you'll most likely be able to see over the guy standing in front of you. There are worse atrocities in the world.

At the TC, people telling people to sit down is as common as our 50% empty "sold out" lower bowl in the 1st quarter, which I think contributes to our team's anemic starts during home games. It's also pretty common for people to get dirty looks and comments just for cheering & chanting loudly.

Edit: To the comment that a**hole isn't really a curse word in response to the Dad who initiated cursing with a**hole and continued the exchange of cursing with a counter f-bomb, if that guy's kids went to school the next day and started repeating a**hole, I think their teachers would consider that a curse word.

Then challenged him to a dance-off. I would have pointed my finger at him, got real stern in the face and yell "I CHALLENGE YOU TO A DANCE-OFF! RIGHT HERE RIGHT NOW! YOU THINK YOU GOT IT!?"

I generally try to respect and befriend the people around me before that final 2 minutes anyways. Game is more fun when you've been hi-fiving everyone around you through out the game. Get your head out of your phones and put a high five in the air.

ive had my view blocked a few times in the lower bowl... I usually just revert to watching the game on the giant screens above the court to watch a few possessions because unless you sit behind the rowdies, most fans will sit down after a possession or 2 so it shouldn't be a big deal.... that being said in the last 2 min of a close game all fans have the right to stand and cheer
