A straw man for what? He's putting extreme Islam in the larger context of human history. Nothing more, nothing less. Even after I posted the speech, you don't seem to have any context of what he's talking about. He even directly condemned ISIS in the speech, and then you argue "On the contrary we should speak out and condemn terrorist actions" as though he's against that. You're just making up whatever it is that you want to believe.

Are you arguing that modern Christians don't feel Islam is inferior while simultaneously saying Christians are unique?

He didn't say we aren't unique. He said what's going on isn't unique to one group or religion.

And seriously, we have to have commercials on domestic violence in this country. In a society as civilized as we are we still have to tell grown men not to slap their women around. We're still growing as a people... Some cultures are just growing slower than what we are.

Nope... We invaded so Christians (Bush and their business partners) could make money. And in the process we took out a power structure that kept those radical groups under control.

    Okay.
And if Bush and company were atheists?

This is as fallacious as atheists are more prone to mass murder argument, which I hate.

I was too hard on Obama and no he didn't actually say anything wrong in context. I have heard a number of liberal scholars and pundits excuse the failings of Islam by relying on the Crusades. Having said that, yes Obama is attempting to not marginalize over a billion people, and while I question those around him, it is an admirable pursuit.

The Crusades were indeed part of Christianity. If it wasn't true Christianity, I don't see how you can call Isis true Islamic beliefs. I think that is what Obama was getting at. I think you really (intentionally?) misconstrued this whole situation imo.

That was whack of Obama to bring up crap that happened thousands of years ago.

Besides, the Crusades were about reacquiring land.

What are you talking about? Christians dont sentence women to death when they get raped. They dont behead people of other religions.

I'm arguing that people who behead others for their religion or subjugate women are inferior, yes. Obama telling us to get off our high horse because Christians did this centuries ago is absurd.

I have no problem with what YOU are saying in terms of religious history, but I do have a problem with how you are interpreting what Obama is saying. It's offensive.

So the threshold for espousing female inferiority is sentencing women to death when they get raped. Sounds legit.

So you're saying it's okay that Christians rape women as long as they don't sentence them to death afterwards... Gotcha.

That's absolutely not what he is saying. But unless you are totally brain dead, you knew that already.
