the fact that it is so quiet on the Rockets' trade front gives me hope that contingent deals are being made left and right
http://blog.chron.com/ultimaterockets/2015/02/jimmy-butler-returns-home-as-an-all-star-inspiration/ Some interesting quotes: “I will have some people in the stands tonight,” Butler said after today’s shootaround. “It’s good to be here and to have that support.” Rio Grande Valley Vipers assistant coach Chris Johnson trained Butler over the summer in Houston. Come home Jimmy!
Ariza might just be one of the best perimeter defenders I have ever seen. It is the little things. I rarely see him have a lapse or get completely broken down off the dribble. Sorry, but Brewer is just on another level, in a worse way. And his gambling is so much worse than Ariza. Brewer gets burned by it; Ariza doesn't. That is quite a difference.
Agree. Also, Ariza's length, positioning and activity make him disruptive to more than just the guy he is guarding. He changes the entire look of the defense in a way that you usually only expect from a good defensive big man. It isn't flashy so the casual fan might miss it but it's there and it more than makes up for his shooting this season.
I agree. I love Brewer's game but he has trouble staying in front of his man. Brewer is a disrupter (and a good one) but he isn't a lock down defender like Ariza.
He's a fantastic defender. No doubt about it. But those comments you just made.......you can read those same comments in Rubio's scouting reports. "changes the whole defense", "disrupts the entire offense of the opponent", etc.
Honestly, I'd take Rubio over any of the PGs people are saying we should trade for. Then get a back up SG for some shooting and we'd be solid
Personally, I feel Rubio is extremely overrated and not worth getting on our team. He is an unbelievably crappy shooter and finisher, meaning he will play like crap next to Harden. So how badly Monta and Rondo has meshed? THAT would be Harden and Rubio.
Brewer is great at steals and is a good defender but Ariza's on ball/team D is significantly better. Brewer is a better slasher and transition ball handler and finisher than Ariza. Even though Ariza has been shooting poorly i still think Ariza is a better spot up 3 point shooter.
But Harden actually passes unlike Monta. And Harden doesn't need the ball in his hands all the time. Unlike Monta.
I see the rumors are very quite from reading the last couple of pages of this tread. Geesh, this has got to be the biggest thread here on Clutch fans.... I can't remember a bigger thread.
and you're exactly right. Rubio is Rondo w/out being able to finish at the rim, plus he's not as good of a defender. Which means when the ball is out of his hands he will be useless. So when Harden gets the ball it will be 4 on 5. DO NOT WANT.... dude almost had the worst fg% IN NBA HISTORY at the rim last year
Yet, Minnesota has always been much better as a team when he’s playing and convincingly outplaying their opponents in general with him and Love. Rondo has been a negative on his team for two years now since his injury. Yet the prevailing sentiment is that Rondo’s better. And he’ll probably be paid more than Rubio in the offseason too. Not that I’m a fan of Rubio or anything, but basketball is more than just the sum of stats. Rubio is definitely a lot more than his shooting, while Rondo is lesser than his assist totals.
Rubio is a almost perfect fit in Minny right now. But in most of the other teams, no. Especially the Rockets.
The sad part about it is even with Rubio's awful finishing, he's still better than Rondo because he can shoot free throws, since players get fouled a lot when driving, but it's like comparing dog and pig crap, either way they're both crap.
Not to "s" the "d" but your takes are insightful and offer a fresh perspective. We need some outside perspective. Give me B.Knight and a backcourt JH can grow old with.
Thanx delish but I'm gonna go underground for a few days before and after you destroy us tomorrow  ...Ish Smith by mistake revealed he's getting traded to the Lakers on the 6th. Quite possibly means bigger deal involving Reggie Jackson and OKC opening a roster spot.
I take Shved over Rubio ..so No plz , a guy can't shoot, defend ,and can't stay healthy..think he is worth a max
The really sad part about Rubio is people think shooting is more important than what he does with the possessions and how many extra possessions he creates with his defense and how much he affects the opponents points per possession with his defense. Most pedestrian basketball fans look at shooting stastics instead of the teams points per possession, which is really the key to how efficient players are. Rubio's not a shooter and doesn't shoot very often. But he does generate great points per possession for his team. And he does knock down the opponents PPP efficiency. Those are keys to winning basketball games. But that's chess and not checkers. Too bad so many people have tunnel vision regarding Rubio's game. He's a fantastic player.
