I was listening to talk radio this morning, and they were arguing that if you look at prior stats and history, just this season the Seahawks had 5 plays from the 1 yard line where they gave Lynch the ball, and he only scored on ONE of them. When the defense has its goal-line package in, it's simply not a given that you'll score with your back.

But the chances of trying to score by running than getting picked off is greater. I'd rather lose from not scoring than getting picked off with freaking 20 sec left of the biggest game of your life!

Yes if you can't run it in from the one, with four attempts, you deserve to lose. The Seahawks overthought that play call and it burned them.

Seattle tried to make a hero out of Russell and turned him into a goat.

Good thing for Seattle is they are a young team and can be right back in the super bowl next year.

That's what happens when your offense keeps getting stopped in the second half and you keep seeing the field. They should have held the lead better tho in the SB.

They have 3 more chances. What are the chances of Lynch going 0-3?

But like Michael Irvin said first, you would rather go down with your biggest strength. If they stuff Marshawn at the goalline three times, then more power to the Patriots.

yeah that makes sense at the highest level, but against a goal-line defensive package? The odds said that move didn't work for the Seahawks this year. Only 20% of the time did they score.

    dat salary cap tho...

Wilson and Lynch are gonna get paid....less $$ for the rest of the team and they'll be forced to make hard decisions. Seattle shouldn't have made the Super Bowl this year -- Green Bay (with a gimpy Rodgers) gifted them the game AT Seattle -- and this is on the heels of last offseason where Seattle was somewhat constrained in the free agent market due to resigning Sherman...

    This.

If they're really going to run a pass, do a pass toward the sideline. There's only one outcome that you can NEVER have happen in this situation, and that's an Interception.

Even then, I wouldn't call a pass in that situation simply due to the interception risk. 2nd down WITH a time out? No way, no how, not a chance.

Either hand it off to Lynch, or have Wilson run it.

I get the idea of what they were trying to do, but if I'm Carroll, and I have one of the best running backs in the game AND one of the better running quarterbacks in the game, I put it all on them.

Worst play call in Superbowl history? Quite possibly.

It was the definition of high risk, low reward.

They had what 20 something seconds with only 1 timeout left so they might of had 2 at the most.

after Lynchs' first run to get to the goal line, the seahawks should have went no huddle so the defense wouldn't be allowed to sub.

They out smarted themselves and it cost them the game.

Football is a funny game. In a vacuum, it would make individual possessions and drives look meaningless. But, think back to that 10-point lead: Seattle's had two straight 3-and-outs with that lead when they could've put the game away. Those two wasted possessions didn't give their defense time to rest and the Patriots exploited that.

But, when you have 3 chances from the 1/2 yard line to run the ball in to win the Super Bowl, you gotta throw it.

Before the pick off, Wilson had a clear path from the right side onto the goal to score. Dude should have ran with it.

As soon as Lynch shifted out from behind Wilson I started screaming WTF, run the !@$#%^! football. Even IF you think they stack the box, at least give the appearance of a run and either roll your QB (safer pass, opens up the option to run) or at the least try a quick pass to the corner of the end zone (lessen the chance of an INT) and then run Lynch on third down.

But a quick slant pass route the tackles? Didn't you just say the Pats stacked the box so your couldn't run between the tackles?

Example of a coach's ego trying to win the game with coaching and not allowing his players to execute for the win. And worse... the OC throwing the receiver under the bus.
