That is exactly what we have. An ancient Terry who in his prime was a spot-up off the ball shooter is now trying to be James Harden when Harden sits. We are good enough as a team to get by with that crap against the bottom half of the league. Therefore people who do not watch the games close enough think Terry is doing good in that role. Not true. Terry is still a spot-up shooter.

There's only one player on this roster that has the ability to fill Hardens role on this team when Harden sits down. But he has not been given that chance to do that. Meanwhile an aged spot-up shooter has been handed that role after a loooooooooooong career of being a spot-up shooter and has proven he's not good in that role yet he continues to be run out there every game in that role while the other player who has the potential to fill that role has been denied the opportunity.

Consider this. Why wasn't Canaan released or traded instead of Tarik Black when we signed Smith? If he is really bad and incapable of playing the point at the NBA level then why did we give up a good looking rookie who has continued to excel with his new team instead of Canaan? Because we need a third point guard? Wait a minute, we had that when Ish Smith was here. And we released Ish. The whole durn training camp Ish was playing the point and people kept speculating that Canaan would be released. I told you then that Morey wasn't r****ded, that if it came down to one or the other that Ish would be released. In fact, I told you when we signed Ish that it was a waste of money unless we traded at least one of Bev/Canaan.

Now Ish is playing for OKC and some of you are wishing we still had him. Guess what? Morey kept Canaan. Why? He only played around 10 minutes a game in preseason while Ish was the first point guard off the bench and logged around double the minutes Canaan logged. Why? Plain and simple, Morey knows Canaan is the superior talent and better player.

There's a reason we called up Canaan. We're gonna play him again.

When the bench keeps losing big leads when Harden sits, we're gonna keep trying to find guys who can hold the fort.

As Goran continues to be unavailable, we'll look at our current guys first to find the solution. After his disastrous outing vs Lakers, I don't think McHale will play Shved ever again.

I haven't every mentioned Shved. There's a guy that literally within minutes of throwing on his Rocket togs for the first time was stumbling around on the court like a deer drunk on moonshine. Oh, but he's long you know. And he won that opportunity you know.

Gimme a break man. This is JVG\Rafer\AB all over again.

The "Comfort Foods" moves were really a big part of the Morey/Adelman fallout, but when it has to be done when a coach is being stubburn Morey has shown now hesitation about pulling the trigger. Adelman wanted status quo with "his guys" that could run his system, and Morey knew that Rick the Ruler would never play his more high upside players buried on the bench. Morey did this a number of times-

-Traded Rafer to give PT to AB
-Traded Battier to give PT to Budinger
-Traded AB to get Lowry more PT
-Traded Budinger to get Parsons more PT
-Amnestied Scola to get PT to 2Pat
-Traded Patterson & Morris to get PT to D-Mo & Jones

I really don't see why folks think its that unheard of that Morey would trade either Beverley or Terry to get PT to Canaan & Johnson given Morey's track record. When you think about it, we should really be shocked if a deal doesn't happen at the deadline to move one of these guys.

Tonight would be a good time to get Canaan some minutes. It's clear teams don't respect any of our three point shooters, and other than Harden, he's our best. His ankle is healed, Jennings is out, Terry is cold, and it's the second half of a back to back.

    Agreed.
I think Canaan should get Terry's minutes tonight just to see how he mixes in with Smith, Brewer, and Jones. Can you imagine what that would do if it improved our already solid bench?

I hope McHale will bring him back right now. Shved is not cutting it at all.

This thread is unbelievable. Petitions? One after another stating Beverley is hot garbage, Ariza needs to be benched, Smith shouldn't get playing time, Terry is too old to contribute, etc. The Rockets are #3 in the West and have the fourth best record in the NBA and people actually want them, over halfway through the season, to make wholesale changes in the starting lineup and rotation and actually start an unproven player. It just boggles the mind.

Maybe they're keeping Canaan under wraps for now until whatever happens or doesn't happen at the trade deadline. Doesn't get hurt = tradeable. Doesn't play = other teams less hot to acquire him.

Or maybe Kevin McHale is an old school dumbass who'd rather give 37 mpg to watch Beverly be mediocre.

Canaan doesn't need to start. But he needs to play. Terry is not providing much of an offensive spark off the bench lately. Yes, he's good for a timely or clutch 3(that one at the end of the 3rd against Dallas for example), but I'd like to have Canaan in there providing a consistent threat from the perimeter. There's no excuse for the Rockets to have 9 point quarters against crappy teams like the Celtics when there are guys sitting on that bench who could be out there contributing.

Terry would be so much better for us if he could play exclusively off the ball and did not have to fool with playmaking duties. Terry is at his best (and always has been) playing off a playmaker.

That's why it's double r****ded to have Terry in the as a playmaker. You've got a guy sitting that is best with the ball in his hands (Canaan) and you're forcing one of the best spot-up shooters in the history of the game to dribble the ball around. That's double dumb. I'm sorry.

Again Mchale is a dumb ass coach who is ignorant as **** and won't play Cannan. Morey should do something about this. No way in hell is 40 year old terry is better than Cannan at this time of his career.

5 Wide Open threes missed tonight and not very good defense.

Very disappointing, but I am hopeful he will get going after 4-5 games.

He got a lot more than he deserved. He played terrible...0 for 5...matador defense...almost single handedly killed our comeback bid. Terrible.

He should only get in blow outs, we can't afford to lose 4-5 games for him to get going.

wtf canaan and paps spearheaded our comeback bid.... ariza coming in killed it... canaan is another player the defense has to worry about on the court, and it also helps spacing

canaan will knock those shots down
