if he plays strong and consistent the rest of the way and the rockets keep this top seeding, he has a shot, considering as of now , nobody in the league has really jumped as a leading candidate. main factor will be scoring , prob have avg like 13pts. which would be amazing for us.

He would have to kill it in the second half. Being cut with all that money left has created quite a large hill for him to climb back to respectability. The guy could have a great game but jack up one terrible 3 and ESPN would only show that shot and say, "Josh is up to his old ways." Just don't think he has enough time for the causal Rockets watcher to get past the selfish player image. All that being said, dude has been really solid lately and I am happy to have him on my bench, award or not.

I love Josh Smith but he isn't even our best player off the bench. Terrence Jones is.

We are seeing a classic transformation of a main option to a role player, in order to fit in on a winning cause. Josh is doing a good job at that transformation.

Some here call this a "disaster" or "horribly failed experiement"

yeah, that's what DudeWah and DD say. Anyone want links?

    Or DoMo!

He's definitely taking that Lamar Odom role from those Lakers teams.

He definitely is the most important bench player. He can contribute in a lot of different ways. A great rim protector, a facilitator, and seems to be able to hit a corner 3 now. Provides a lot more than Brewer and Jones (who have obviously been playing great as well, but Josh is the catalyst).

Wasn't he starting for Detroit before they cut him? If so, then he hasn't been a 6th man long enough to be a serious contender for the award.

He's been great for the Rockets off the bench though. He and Brewer give the team a huge boost when they enter the game.

Hmm, I think Josh is better. He provides elite defense and some playmaking. He's made some amazing passes.

Jones is a much more efficent scorer though.

Let's hope that Smith can keep up the good work, and get more efficient. When he plays well, he creates pressure on the opposing team.

He's turned it around a bit after the last GS game, hopefully he keeps playing like this.

I see how some peoples post counts are so high, with threads like these. But its too early for 6th man of the year.

If Josh Smith won 6th man of the year, that would be one of the "feel good stories" of this basketball season.

A guy making almost 15 million on his previous team. Unprecedently gets cut. Gets a lot of hate from the media for his poor shot selection and negative impact on the team which is fueled even more by his former team pulling off a win streak.

But he goes to his new team, accepts the role that they need from him, and is able to rebound his way to a major season award?

It would be a good story. But I don't think he will win it. Josh Smith does a lot of things, but that award usually goes to guys who score a lot if points. You know, the "instant offense off the bench" guys.

another great performance tonight for Josh, he really gives a massive boost off the bench and no other team has a multi facet player like him as their 6th man
