Dmo needs to develop a midrange shot like duncan or lma have. That way, he doesn't need to expend too much energy every game trying to post up. Just hit a nice hook in the lane or shoot a midrange. He will keep his defender guessing.
Sounds like the OP has only watched Dmo play the last 5 minutes of this game and basing his entire opinion of him on that.
Very true. It'll be interesting to see how DMo contributes in the playoffs. If he comes out flat and gets 2 rebounds in 20mins of play per game, I'll figure he needs more experience or doesn't like bigger games. It's hit and miss with his game, either he's having a great game and the Rockets don't get him the ball, or he's slumping and he gets too many shots. Usually his offense is good, but seems to definitely be lacking in rebounds. I've watched a lot of players and don't get attached to a player based on a small sample size, so definitely looking forward to playoffs for him.
All I am saying is DMo is not a deal breaker but most of you make it seem like it is... Heck if DMO/Pelicans pick can land is Dragic/Lawson/MCW/Rubio... I say you have to pull the trigger. Yes he really improved this year but we must trade him while his stock is high because I think it is as high as it will every be. I really agree with the post about his base, this is my number 1 issue with DMO. He gets pushed around so easily, I swear have never seen a big man fall down so much. As for his offense it seems to have regressed to the mean I mean 35 year old "dirk" was able to guard him and that was his second game in as many nights. Thank you to all for the actual discussion it is something that needs to be had
yeah the big test is to get his feet wet in the playoffs. good to see some improvement though thus far. big difference bw now and the previous year.
What the Rockets do with DMo is related to what they want to do with Dwight. If they decide they want Dwight to retire as a Rocket, DMo becomes our new Asik (very nice center but not a great fit for the team, so try to get as much value as you can for him). If they don't want to keep Dwight because of his injuries/inefficiencies, then DMo is our future.
Yeah PG area is lacking and 2nd playmaker would help team a lot. I mean there's some games where team doesn't move ball well (other than Harden passing). Unfortunately DMo relies on the Rockets passing in half court game and that definitely doesn't work out sometimes (not a fault on him). I'm hoping the Dirk thing was just a one time thing, because Dirk has never been known for his defense... I don't know if trading DMo would help or hurt, especially since Dwight is hurt still, but at the same time I'm not sure Houston is good enough to make it far in the playoffs (obviously things can change by the time the playoffs come around), but if playoffs started today, I'd say even with the best player in the NBA they're second round at best in the West unless Harden does everything perfectly for them. I mean at this point without Harden this team isn't even playoff bound, so the way I see it unless you're named Harden/Howard you're tradable if it means making the team actually do something when it matters (obviously not popular opinion around here since that means DMo is expendable). I might be judging this current group/team unfairly but I'm tired of watching other teams in the playoffs. I mean I watch a lot of regular season games and enjoy basketball in general, it's just tough to not be somewhat pessimistic about our team's long playoff drought. If it goes much longer it'll be 20 freaking years we've been supporting poor playoff performances. I'd sooner see the team scrape in as an 8th seed if it meant doing something in the playoffs (like taking out GSW). Currently though I definitely wouldn't want to see that match-up...
DMo right now is a nice piece on a contending team. The upside with DMo is that he showed growth and improvement recently so we don't know his ceiling. He could have already hit it this year (unlikely) or it could be much higher. I think we'll know more come playoff time and early next year after summer.
He's improved his game a lot, he is a fairly consistent 11 and 6 a night. Was surprised he took the most shots on the team at 16 last night, watching the game it didn't feel like that much.
Anyone who thinks Dirk guarded D-Mo most of the night is not very bright. Almost all his post ups that he missed came against Aminu or Chandler. The bad part was that he actually got them into a position he usually scores in. He just rushed his shot at the end and missed buckets he usually makes after doing all the hard work backing them down.
DMo's post ups have not been quite as inhumanely effective the last 5 games or so, but I think, with Dwight seemingly out for a while, that Donatas is about to break the F out. I am looking forward to him going up against the young big guys in Detroit.
My goodness. Hinkie would take DMo for MCW straight up and laugh all the way to the 2015 draft about it. He was going against both Tyson Chandler and Dirk and Tyson is an elite defender.
Yeah, I agree. It seemed like he was deferring to team mates and passing out of decent opportunities last night ( which is something DMo often does), but then, lo and behold, he had the most shots on the team. Very surprising.
If let's say the Rockets stay pat this trade deadline and make a run for the playoffs and lose in the first round, do you think Dwight will get traded next year before the season starts?
