I agree except with athletes like Richard Sherman. If it was more athletes who spoke their mind like him... The commissioner might put out a gag order... The press feel entitled and so do fans when it comes to athletes. No one complains about actors and musicians who don't talk to the press. And you can probably get more information from your favorite player with twitter, instagram, etc than you can get from the press.
It's **** like this that makes me hate myself for even liking the sport at all. If I knew I could drop one thing from my life and guarantee I'd never miss it, it'd be football in 2015.
I doubt there is a single successul movie star or musician that refuses to the do the media circuit when they have a new movie/album/single/whatever coming out. You've heard about actors getting a TON of grief from studios when they don't give 100% into promoting a movie.
Off the top of my head... Prince. He rarely spoke to the media and it didn't hurt his record sales at all.
Look at Kevin Hart and his lack of Social Media Support in the emails from Sony That Said . . .. . the NFL is just trying to be overly controling Mashawn does the interviews. . . .it really adds nothing to the game Rocket River
GREED The Media makes their money off these players and the leeches get mad when the host decides not to play the game Over the years. . . . My opinion of the media has sunk lower and lowers Plays won't make the hall because some slimey spineless b*stard with a grudge is still pissed about a snub 20 yrs ago . . . . . . smh Rocket River

They're all so desperate to be the one who antagonizes him enough or tricks him into saying something different. That's all I want, a preset amount, not just arbitrarily increasing fines until they get compliance. There'll be plenty of players left who'd want to talk even if there's no penalty. Unfortunately it's really only guys like lynch who reporters want to poke with a stick until he says something stupid or controversial. Can't fine him into giving good answers though. Don't like it, then I guess hand him a script, make him read lines of what you want him to say to each question.
Guessing ol' Roger won't be fined. <blockquote class="twitter-tweet" lang="en"><p>NBC said it requested an interview with Roger Goodell for its SB pregame show. Says NBC: "Right now it does not look like it will happen."</p>— Richard Deitsch (@richarddeitsch) <a href="https://twitter.com/richarddeitsch/status/560533904369922048">January 28, 2015</a></blockquote> <script async src="//platform.twitter.com/widgets.js" charset="utf-8"></script>
This media crap and the Deflategate "story" is why I have avoided any type of sports reporting/analysts (other than watching actual games/clutchfans) for the past couple of weeks and it has been glorious.
No wonder he refuses to engage with this inane bull****. One of the reporters actually asked him "Are you excited for the Super Bowl?" I'd rather have Marshawn Lynch refuse to engage in something we all recognize is stupid, scripted and emotionless (the professional athlete interview that is coached to death by PR people) than hear a Peyton Manning clone yuck his way through the same tired lines about his teammates, great play and "the fans."
Marshawn Lynch knows exactly what he's doing. I'm not convinced he is socially awkward or has social anxiety. He is knowingly and deliberately being unprofessional and he knows that he is contractually required to take a little time to interact with the media and do other things he doesn't want to do...as those things help pay the bills and promote the sport. Lynch doesn't give a damn about any of that. He wants the rule changed and is behaving the way he is to draw attention to the issue...and quite successfully so IMO. We'll see if he ultimately gets his way (I doubt it). I like DonnyMost's "opt-out" idea.
its funny when athletes talk to the media, then the media uses unamed sources to cause discension in the locker room... i think lynch is still mad at the media for his name being implicated by one of the members of the media who said russell wilson wasnt "black" enough... the media just uses the players quotes to destroy locker rooms i have seen this done to destroy rg3's career <iframe width="420" height="315" src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/gLwd7EeQtlI" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe> lol strahans interview never gets old

I like Marshawn Lynch as a former Golden Bear and I love how he plays but this is getting ridiculous. I realize all of the media stuff is stupid and inane and personally would have no problems with just doing away with it but this is his job. Most of us do things for our jobs that we don't want to do and most of us aren't getting paid millions of dollars to do it. My opinion is he should just suck it up and give the same platitudes that other players. Do if his goal is to change things the way he's going about it just guarantees that the NFL is going to keep these media events going just to generate this type of spectacle.
Between "Deflategate" and Lynch's non-interviews, these two weeks have probably been the most "packed" pre Super Bowl period ever. The NFL can pretend they are mad at Lynch, but between selling the photo of his fined action online and the millions of impressions they're getting from this story, the football publicity beast is being fed well before the Super Bowl.
