Thorn is the best handcannon in the game at the moment, you might want to get on that homie. Plus if you have a warlock the quest is relatively painless.
I've got the Thorn bounty too but stopped at the PvP part. I hate PvP, and didn't have any decent Void damage weapons. Hopefully having The Epilogue will help with that. Still haven't found a Hawkmoon though.
When I was joing my friends group I had to just use the search function to find his group. Had to have the name though. This should be easier...
I helped my friend through it, and all he had was a void sniper / void rockets (he's a hunter). The only advice I can give you is: camp like a mother****er. Don't worry about your score, as long as you're getting void kills. Don't worry about winning. Get void kills. If all you have is a void sniper like him, I'd back out of every map that forces you close range also. The gun is 100% worth it though, especially if you like handcannons.
