Okay, but Canaan wouldn't start for ANY team in the NBA and might not even have a roster spot on every team in the NBA.
Which part? He's doing decently in RGV and he had a few good games with the Rockets, but he's just a short 3 point specialist that doesn't even pretend to play defense and is a block waiting to happen if he tries to take the ball inside....PG is one of the deepest positions in the NBA with tons of talent throughout the league, I can't think of a team he'd for sure start on unless it was due to injury.
funny - he was excelling on the defensive end before he went out and was being heavily credited with being a defensive fireplug. He was staying in front of the leagues best remarkably well and it was his defense that was buying him his initial playing time (outside of injuries). His shot wasn't falling. It was after he settled and got more minutes his shot started falling and he was bringing it consistently on 2 sides. when he came back it was rush and his burst & lateral movement were significantly and understandably slower. He was a liability on both sides of the ball and they weren't getting enough practice time to get him back in shape. the rockets sent him down to get playing time. they are searching for wins. when he's ready, they'll bring him back up and McHale will insert him back into the rotation. probably gradually.
And let Canaan get abused by the likes of Curry, Parker, Paul, Lillard, Westbrook, Lawson, Dragic, and Conley (and that's just in the West)? No thanks, I much prefer Beverly setting the tony. If Canaan starts, that means Beverly would likely predominantly play their backups...wasting his most valuable contribution. He isn't playing that poorly, and he's not a liability on offense whatsoever. I don't believe Canaan is the kind of playmaker everyone thinks he is at this point in his career. He can create for himself perhaps, but is he really going to take that much pressure off Harden? I don't think so. If we are changing starting pgs, it should be an upgrade. At this point, Canaan is only equal with Beverly overall, if that.
Most of the time I can't stand that guy. Can't stand his cadence with those drawn-out pregnant pauses that make it sound like he went off the air. But mainly can't stand how every time he talks about Harden, he sounds like Barkley when he talks about the Rockets or Shaq when he talks about Dwight Howard. He immediately goes into a diatribe on Harden's defense, or Harden's defense last year. You'll never hear him glitch out like that against the mighty untouchable Texans. Any talk of Rockets and it will somehow get to his 2 minute flip out on Harden. Canaan, Dorsey, Shved....I think these guys won't be in Rockets jerseys in March.
Uh we put PB as a starter for a reason. Now some yall want Canaan as the starter and PB as the back up? Makes no sense.

Good, we need a good shooter at PG, and he has proven that he can score... Lets hope MilkHair gives him minutes
Canaan is not "something special". He's a scoring PG with defensive, finishing and decision making issues. There are ton of them in the US. He's still an interesting young piece with some potential, but he's not "something special". Canaan is a better scorer than Pat, but not necessarily a better overall player and not necessarily a better fit for the team. Team would be more dangerous at most of games offensively with him, but even worst defensively, being already not solid at that end. He's neither a solid and reliable playmaker at NBA level, he's not. He could be usable off the bench, but I very doubt the team would be better with him starting. He's playing at the Dleague for a reason, do not let your fanaticism blind you.
Definitely. Pure scorer (not just a marksman) ...... with playmaker upside....As of now he can handle a role ...later, likely much more... Unfortunately, I'm not sure he'll be a Rocket after the deadline....
