Gsw doesn't get to desperate positions as much. Good teams don't have to play fourth quarter hero ball all of the time. They put teams out by the end of the third. That's what champions do and that's where you find your mvp. We aren't there yet.
If our team won't behave like champions, you can't expect an mvp award. No matter how good harden is...
Personally, I look at it as what would happen if you replaced an MVP candidate from on team with an MVP candidate from another team, what would happen? Obviously that cab get a little bit tricky because of the positional differences. But if you took Harden off of our team and replaced him with Curry, I honestly do believe that our team would be several wins worse. And that's not saying anything bad about Curry- he has been having an amazing season so far this year. If that was the case, those several wins would be the difference between the Roxkets making the playoffs or being a lottery team. If you took Curry off of GSW and replaces him with Harden, it would be tricky because then you would have two SG's with Thompson and Harden, but i think they would actually be able to make a pretty formidable backcourt. GSW has so few losses that it is hard to imagine much difference, but I think they would be the same or maybe even a win or two better. Is is somewhat subjective. And if I had to bet, I would say Curry probably will win it. But I think Harden is more deserving
Yet everyone believes Curry the MVP and carrying his team. Oh, Klay puts up 52? That's nothing. It's Curry the on carrying this team.
The last time a player from a 60 win team was awarded the MVP before the playoff game, a HOF promptly stepped up and torched that MVP...History may have a weird way of repeating itself. There is zero question that Steph is having a great season...but the product of their success stems from the biggest change they had this offseason...coaching!
Who is more valuable to their respective teams? If Harden and Curry were to both be out for the rest of the season, which team would suffer more? That's who your most valuable player is. Of course it's all moot if the Rockets fall out of the top 4 in the west. If Rockets can finish second in the west, and it's a realistic chance since they're only 1 game back, then he should undoubtedly get some strong consideration over Curry.
Yep... if Ariza was shooting around 40% from 3 like last year, Harden's assist numbers would be even higher.
Is Curry better than Harden? NO!! That is a simple one. If you are basing it as individual players, but are the GSW better than HOU? Yes, as of right now they are. I don't think GSW will get past the first round in my opinion. Steve does let every player play to their strengths, he's a very smart coach. And they shoot the ball very well. I just think they will get figured out in a 7 game series by the likes of S.A. ,Mem,Dal,Hou.
The best player on the best regular season team in 1994 was Gary Payton. Do you believe he was the REAL MVP and Hakeem was just a fraud who stole his troohy?
You can't deny the best player on the best team in the league. That's usually what the MVP is unless you have a historic individual season.
That's a bad comparison. Curry is putting up stats just as good as James, and his shooting remains out of this world. And GSW is 6.5 games ahead of Houston right now, and Curry has outplayed Harden in their H2H matchups. Hakeem that year statistically put up 27, 12, 4, 2, 4. Payton's stats weren't anywhere close to that. Sonics were more of a balanced team ala the Hawks right now. If Harden has a historical season like Durant just did, he would have a better argument. But the MVP is Curry to lose.
Not really. He's scoring less on lower usage because he has less to do. Most Valuable Player. Not " guy with best per on team with most wins"
There's literally no gap in stats between Harden and Curry. There was an ocean of a gap in stats between Hakeem and Payton. Your comparison was poor. That's why Durant won it last year despite not having the best record in the league (although 2nd best helped). He had a historic season, and was by far the best player in the league. For Harden to have a chance of winning, he would have to play even better than he is right now to separate himself individually from Curry.
Curry's season > Rose's season. Rose wasn't considered the best player in the league that year. OR even top 2. Or top 3. Curry/Harden are basically on the same tier this year. And they both have had the best individual seasons in the league so far this year.
Other than one guy winning the scoring title and the other barely cracking the top 10 that's totally true. Youre right. The best player was actually Shawn Kemp, he was much closer to Hakeem. Actually the real gap that year was between Robinson and Olajuwon. Robinsons 30 PER and nearly 30 ppg was a historically dominant season, substantially better than Dream's good but non historic 25 PER.. By your logic MVP is either Kemp or Robinson. No actually you rather poorly thought out the "it must go to best player on best team absent historical Stat line" argument not realizing that it strips Hakeem forever. He answered your argument in 1995 against San Antonio.
