Don't know if the genius was Morey or Les but either way these 3 b****es have put the Rockets at least 3 years away from being 3 years away from contending
What's your point? Defense is largely effort to begin with. The Rockets have been thoroughly mediocre in that area, and it's not surprising that their record reflects that.
Morey is the only reason the Rockets even have a shot at contending. Don't lose your mind completely. His only bad move this season was signing Josh Smith. Which btw, I still maintain was absolutely terrible. Not sure how much of a hand Dwight Howard had in that though. Les' comments seem to indicate the boneheaded moves are more his doing than anyone else's. He spoke as if he was directly responsible for McHale's extension. This is probably due to McHale's ability to "attract stars" or whatever.
Leslie is just counting his billions not giving a **** just paying guys who will nod their head and say "yes sir"
We agree, my point was that effort and the poor defense go hand in hand, the only reason our defense isn't elite is because we aren't playing hard, we have lots of great individual defensive players, we have the tools..
Here's a hypothetical that I haven't even entertained until now, but it's worth asking. Does anyone think McHale ever coaches a single game of that 3-year extension if the Rockets miss the postseason entirely? Would Les be willing to eat massive crow(and 13 mil) and fire him should we wind up in the lottery? I know, what am I smoking? But look at the standings. We have 14 losses. Phoenix, the 8th seed, has only 18. OKC who are in 9th place and breathing down the Suns' necks have only 20. Both play 4 more home games than road games the rest of the way(the Rockets play 1 more road game). The schedule ain't that easy the rest of the season. And if we continue to play .500 ball over the remaining 39 games like we have since our 19-5 start, we're looking at finishing with around 48-49 wins. That may not be enough to reach the playoffs in a Western Conference this loaded.
if anyone watched that roundtable video with les and clyde, it was pretty apparent what matters to our owner. he repeatedly gushed about the big name players he's acquired over the years. while referencing his 'buddies' over and over. reminds me of a family member who loves bringing up his harvard-trained landscape architect for the gardens of one of his estates. clearly what excites les most (other than making money off his investment here) is being able to show off his horse stable and drop big names to the friends and acquaintances. only problem is mchale was big name as a stallion. but as a jockey he's blind and armless.
The Rockets have 12 games over the next 30 days. Only 2 of their opponents are crappy teams(Lakers and Celtics and both are road games). They also play the Bucks at home, but I wouldn't call them crappy. Just average. So if they don't start bringing it every night and match their opponents' level of play, they're gonna collapse in the standings.
That soft early schedule got everyone's hopes up. McHale gets his extension and here comes the roller coaster ride.
The rockets have an impediment...and sadly that impediment will never net them a ring. This pickup style of play may be fun to watch...but its so easy to stop when playing a team over a 7 game series, where they are able to plan against the rockets and the style of play is so defensively oriented that it exposes us for who we are. Its going to take something really big for us rid ourselves of it. Golden State was a pretender last year as well, although to a lesser degree, but at least they knew they had to change the entire coaching staff. They got a crap load of criticism but man...it is paying off now. Team looks completely different from the one the rockets would toy around with from previous years.
It could be a roller coaster going down. I just took another look at the schedule. We play Dallas 3 more times. The Clippers 3 more times. The Suns 3 more times. The Spurs 2 more times. The Blazers 2 more times. The Raptors 2 times. The Grizzlies one more time. At the Hawks. At the Wizards. At OKC. Shoot, even the Pelicans 2 more times won't be a cakewalk.
Is there ANYBODY out there that still thinks this guy is any good? I challenge anyone to defend McHale at this point. Please give an example of SOMETHING that he has done to make you believe he is a quality coach. Please cite examples of adjustments, motivational speeches, rotation, etc. Also...if we do somehow find the last person on earth that defends McHale, who in your mind IS a bad coach???
I think he blocked me. He was taking a verbal beating and couldn't handle it anymore so he took the easy way out.
Actually Rockets rank second in defensive efficiency, it's our offense that is mediocre. Aside from Harden we have nothing.
lol I was just about to say this. His usual defense is: "We have the worst fans in the NBA " Terrible terrible fans for wanting their team to actually achieve something. I guess the Warrior's FO hated their team too....as Mark Jackson had more success than Mac.
I'm not trying to defend Mchale tonight....but since you asked it seems like Kyle Lowry respects him. http://bleacherreport.com/articles/...ot-learning-more-from-kevin-mchale-in-houston
