If I wasn't clear about what I want, this is exactly what I want:

    - D-Mo establishes post position against whatever baddie the other team puts on him
    - D-Mo sees PBev dribble up to the perimeter with the ball. Shot clock should be 17-20 seconds left at this point.
    - D-MO yells at PBev "I got this! Give me the ball!"
    - If PBev does his r****ded dribble around in place until the shot clock is down to 10 seconds, scream at him "GIVE ME THE DAMN BALL!"
    - When they are heading back on D, D-Mo should tell Bev "I am WAAAAY better at scoring than you, so GIVE ME THE ****ING BALL!"
    - Now read this again and replace PBev with Terry, Dorsey, Brewer, Ariza, K-Pap, ect

I don't see that happening because he's a team player. I think the solution has to be for coaching to demand smarter play out of the ball handlers or make a move to upgrade them or put them on the bench. A player shouldn't have to be an a hole just to get the damn ball.

Agreed. He's always setting screens, moving the ball. His own scoring stats seem to be the least of his worries.

So you would rather depend on a fairy tale situation where McHale decides to stop coddling his favorite players, something that he has not shown he is capable of doing as opposed to a player speaking out for the betterment of himself and the team? I also disagree about the a-hole part. I would argue that if you are trying to carve out a leadership role, sometimes you have to be an a-hole to get what you want. In order to make an omelette, you have to break a few eggs. For better or worse, our guards and wings outside of Harden are who they are. At this point, it is completely up to D-Mo to seize his place.

I'm not sure what that guy's point is. D-Mo is the ultimate team first player (a quality that fans and coaches alike pine for constantly) and yet this guy wants him to act like an *******.

    That's some weird logic there.

It's a personnel issue more than anything else.

My point is simple, if we want D-Mo to have a bigger scoring role, D-Mo needs to assert himself as an alpha dog and demand touches. Being a "team player" means he is ultimately getting whatever touch the coach and teammates decide to passively give him. If he wants MORE than that, he SHOULD be an ******* if necessary and demand more touches. Not sure what is so hard about understanding that point?

This is what good big guys do in the NBA. If you don't demand the ball, you must not want it.

Dmo demanding the ball would be a sign that he's ready to get it more.

If he does that he always runs the chance of pissing off the guards, and he could get even fewer touches than he's already receiving.

Another thing is that Beverly is terrible passer to the post. A lot of times DMo and Dwight have to leave their post position to retrieve the pass of Beverly, forcing them to re-establish position with the ball.

European and Asian players don't really do that.

Gasol didn't demand the ball in LA
Yao didn't demand the ball here

These are just two examples. There are more.

Plus you're just spouting unsubstantiated rhetoric anyway. D-Mo calls for the ball when he posts up quite often. The players (other than Harden and a few others) still ignore him. You seem to be of the opinion that he needs to be yelling at his teammates when they do that. The rest of us think that's a good way to alienate yourself.

Furthermore, it should be up to a good coach to put their players in a position to succeed and play to their strengths so the offense can be efficient. Not sure why anyone would argue otherwise. That's effectively what you're doing with your position though. D-Mo shouldn't have to yell and scream, because he should just be given more touches within the scope of the offense anyway.

It is one thing to be a bad passer, it is quite another to watch PBev draining down the clock before even ATTEMPTING a pass trying to create with his ****ty handles. I do not want to watch PBev play Harden. I want him to at least TRY and throw the ball in early we we are posting up.

Your insistence on a bad coach somehow turning into a good coach who calls good plays and consistently holds players accountable is just as "unsubstantiated" as my "rhetoric" that D-Mo needs to grow a pair and establish his dominance on the team when our stars are sitting. I would argue that expecting McHale to turn a leaf in terms of offensive plays to be even more ridiculous than requesting D-Mo to establish his place on the team.

As far as the comment of that's just how European and Asian players are, well there is a saying "When in Rome, do as Romans do". D-Mo is NOT in Europe anymore. He is in the NBA of the USA. If the coaching is not drawing up the plays and touches you feel you should have, you let it be known. That's what ultimately separates role players who rise above being role players and role players who stay role players in the league.

Lastly, I doubt it will alienate his teammates if D-Mo demands for the ball instead of meekly raising his hand going "I'm open!" NBA players, especially younger ones are like dogs in a pack. Players NEED to establish a pecking order and figure out where in the hierarchy they are.

Just a thought, but maybe some guards are unwilling to make that entry pass for Dmo more often simply because there is no assist if he scores after creating his own shot on a post-up situation? I know it sounds bad, but i know that some players count the stats in their conscious while they play. So they end up bouncing the ball around looking for plays where they would be awarded with an assist.

Giving Dmo more touches would not necessarily lead to a more efficient offense. It will lead to more defensive attention for him, which he may or may not be ready for.

Right now Dmo is rarely double teamed, and is usually guarded by lesser defenders.

While it's true that D-Mo does not receive double teams often, he has received them and shown the ability to pass out of them.

He definitely does not get guarded by lesser defenders though. He's scored at a high clip against some of the best post defenders in the NBA.

He absolutely gets lesser defenders. Some teams like OKC, CHI, and NOP have two good defenders, but when there is a Kenneth Faried or Jason Thompson on the other team, he's guarding Dmo.

I think it would make more sense for a lot of teams to put their C on Dmo, and PF on Dwight, if Dmo was getting more shots.

He does sometimes. Faried isn't a "lesser defender" it's just a bad match-up for him due to size. You also have to realize D-Mo played a lot of games while Dwight was out against the team's best post defender.

Also, I'm not sure I've heard anyone claim Joakim Noah, Serge Ibaka, Marc Gasol, the Milwaukee Bucks frontline, Alex Len, Anthony Davis, Tim Duncan, or the Bird Man are "lesser" post defenders.

D-Mo has had to go up against all of them and done well each time.

Anyway, these points are moot because it's not like Dwight is leaving the team. D-Mo can continue to dominate the "lesser" defenders (of your world) and if they switch whoever you think is better on to him, Dwight can feast on the "lesser" defender ;)
