For me, I agree but I think most folks like the idea of having everything in one place. It seems to be the trend we're moving toward. My current job has ridiculous amenities in the building including a full time doctor on-site, full court basketball court in the building and a cafeteria with a hell of a menu along with a great location for shopping, dining, etc.

I have not used any of the amenities (except the basketball court) and come straight home from work every day but I'm pretty much the exception.

I go to work to get paid and then I'm out. Not there to make friends, work out or shop at lunch. Let me do my job, give my money and let me gtfo.

I would rather they just keep executive officing, in as chiefly a manner as feasible. Class or hierarchical resentment doesn't increase sales or lower costs.

I did not know we had to use proper grammar on the internet when referencing a meme about Daryl Morey. I am sorry that I offended you. Oh, I think you spelled p*rn wrong.

Someone failed to mention Halliburton is buying Baker Hughes. That wouldn't be the cause of layoffs...noooo way.

My roommate works for Baker Hughes and my dad works for Halliburton and from what they understand, the layoffs has nothing to do with the merger.

Schlumberger has mass layoffs every 4 to 5 years it seems. There's actually a running joke among O&G workers that at some point you'll be laid off buy them.

Part of the BHI cuts is because of the merger with HBL. About 25% of that 7,000 will be in Houston (about 1800 cuts).

    Wonder how many in Houston.

I don't know about other people, but my demand has gone up. I'm more willing to go on long cruises, or drive to DFW to see my mother/old high school friends (over flying) now that prices are so cheap. I'm at the point now where if I'm just going to the gas station to get an Arizona or some rillos and I have some cash (say 10 bucks), I'll put the rest on gas and get like around four gallons. I wouldn't actually need gas, but it's so cheap so why not (especially at these stations with different prices for cash vs debit/credit).

    You're not alone.

    From Jan 8:

"Now with gasoline at almost $2/gallon on average nationwide, US gasoline demand has not only recovered, but is at all-time seasonal highs and likely to be at a record high throughout 2015," he wrote.

    From Yesterday:

“While the oil price plunge is clearly painful for the energy industry, consumers stand to gain significantly in 2015 due to the related fall in gasoline prices,” Raymond James said in the report. “This gasoline price correction will lead to the biggest surge in gasoline demand that the U.S. has seen in over three decades.”

SLB is a heck of a lot bigger than Haliburton even after the Baker transaction. SLB isn't being bought out by anybody.

Obama cited an extra $750 saved per year. Not sure what that does for the economy.

Anyways, Halliburton will also layoff some folks but not sure when the announcement will come.

    The typical family.

BHP is cutting back on its rigs. The last company I worked at was a vendor for some of BHP's Eagle Ford project, so I'm kind of glad I ducked out of there.

You don't know what an extra $90 billion in Americans' pockets does for the economy? The huge Bush tax cuts were an estimated $130B per year. So it's the equivalent of that massive tax cut, without actually costing the government anything.
