Happy for Kubiak, but this is such a strange hire. Almost seems like the Broncos did it for sentimental reasons. This would be sort of like the Rockets hiring Scott Brooks.
Nah, it would be more like the Rockets hiring Bill Berry or Larry Smith. Kubes was impressive enough in the Baltimore quick turnaround to get a few interview offers... so its not all "senitment". He could literally have John Elway playing QB, and still be able to have a top 3 rushing offense.
He was a little too conservative for my liking but the offense was always, always on point when healthy. The Texans biggest problem during the Kubiak era was pass heavy teams such as New England and Green Bay. He wasn't far removed from a 12-4 season with Schaub, Foster, and Johnson relatively healthy. I think he and Schaub got a raw deal being scapegoated for the injury plagued 2013 season and lack of offensive line.
I think he in Chicago now but Wade makes a top 3 defense in his 1st two yrs I think he will only have 2~3 yrs with Peyton anyway Might as well optimize Rocket River
And the first year is usually the best year of the two. He's got some elite pass-rushers there with Von Miller and Demarcus... they were already a pretty good defense this year, so the amount they'd have to improve to be "elite" isn't all that much. But who knows what Phillips really wants to do... I know he likes to tweet about how he doesn't have a job and there's also the previous ties he has to to the Broncos and I'm not sure if Elway was all that fond of him.
A little from the PC: Peyton Manning, have you talked to him? We have talked. Talked at length a couple days ago, last night via text. Bottom line, he has family things going on but we'll get together and sit down. Want to be the best support system for him. We've had conversations and we'll have many more. Any level of whether you can build a playbook for him? Offense isn't per se fit for him. Easy to build a playbook for him. HOF person, HOF player. We didn't get that far. It was conversations talking about family, the pro bowl, how he was feeling. We were setting the stage for us to get together. This is his time, his decision. I need to be there for him any way I can. ... Were gonna run the Broncos offense, not the Kubiak offense and do what our team does best. Manning considered the Texans. Why is he your number one choice now? First off, I don't think that's been addressed correctly. With organizations, so many things go into putting a team together. That situation, that's the first year the Texans had success. We had a struggle keeping our team together. We lost 10-12 quality free agents. At that time for us, we were trying to hang onto things. You have to make decisions best for your team, stay competitive and in the moment. We were able to do that. Came back and won 12 games. Those are tough decisions. Organization has to stand up and do what you think is best. Will you call plays? Yes, it's something I've been doing my whole career. I love it. That's where my competitive juices flow. At the same time, will have people around me. Those guys will be involved too. Spoiler

Gary Kubiak on Peyton Manning situation in 2012. Fixed it you, bruh. That's basically the first confirmation I've heard that adding Manning was legitimately on the table. Not sure we could have come up with all that money though.
Sucks that the Bengals won't let Kubes hire Vance Joseph as their D Coordinator. They're not even going to compensate him or promote him for the denial of the job.
I'd be really disappointed if I was a Broncos fan. I applaud them for not being satisfied with Fox getting them a bye into the 2nd round and losing, but Kubiak has never lead a team that has even earned a bye in the first round. What makes them think he is a candidate to take them further in the playoffs?
Kubes and Wade?!?

Buzz at Senior Bowl is #Broncos are talking to Wade Phillips as defensive coordinator candidate.
— Jeff Legwold (@Jeff_Legwold) January 22, 2015

Think he is very likable, but where has he been successful as a head coach? If BOB has Kubiak's "success" in Houston will the city be pleased?
He's had all of one head coaching job... he wouldn't be the first head coach if he ends up better in his second job/stint.
