So what did Dwight learn from Hakeem again? The Dream can hit those percentages with his eyes closed.
Dwight needs to forget everything he learned from Hakeem. He's the last player he should be learning moves from because he just doesn't have Hakeem's foot speed and body balance to execute a proper hook shots. He needs to find the man that teaches Shaq his power moves. That's who Dwight is. A power player executing power moves. Dwight was successful tonight because he attack the basket with power moves. All his shot attempts should always gravitate to rim.
I shake my head every time we feed Dwight in the post. I shake my head even harder when I hear Drexler keep saying we should feed the ball to Dwight more on the post.
This is what bothers me with Dwight, no coach, HOF, GM, or Owner can get him to change his elementary post game. It makes the Rockets the most easily guardable team in the league. Please let them throw into Dwight and don't double him. Let him fake right and put your right hand up for the left handed jump hook. We score 28.8% of the time on his post ups. Somebody please show leadership and stop this from happening. His post ups deflate the team. At least he's doing a better job of making his free throws. No more power in his game, he bails out for the easy shots.
yes sources please... i mean not that the eye test is not confirming this but it would be interesting to know the sources...
He's made some of the best bigs in the league look foolish. And when Dwight was out he took care business, held down the paint. I don't think you're giving him enough credit. He has potential to be one of the best PF's in the league. He's improved drastically this year and he's only 24.
lol I have said he has potential already to be a good center. He is still not stretching the floor right now and that is what the team needs in a PF. If he can't stretch the floor then he will be a back up center to Dwight. Starter if Howard sits but our defense will lessen.
He needs to just put on his Shaq hat and bull his way for a dunk. He would be spending his time MUCH more wisely by practicing free throws about 4 hours every day. Bull to the basket, get a LAYUP or a DUNK (NOT a stupid freaking 'throw-it-at-the-rim' "hook"), and pass it out to a shooter when appropriate. This is not rocket science, so why haven't they figured this out yet?
With all the flopping in the NBA he'll get called for offensive fouls if he tried to "Shaq" his way to the basket.
Agreed. Defenses have figured out that if you fall down while being backed down there's about a 90% success rate for picking up a charge. There's no more place in the league for bull-rushing the rim from the post.
^this if Dwight played during Shaq's era... he would easily be a 25+ ppg guy.. now he will get called for a charge if he tries to use his strength...
I know this is the conventional wisdom, but is it really true? Dwight always seems to catch the passes while he is already only like 2 feet from the hoop anyway. I am not advocating him running OVER people, but geez he is already so close, 90% of the time when he jumps up in the air and flings that ball at the hoop in his little failure of a "hook shot", it just seems that he would be at the very least AS likely to score if he would simply make a stronger move directly to the hoop for a dunk or a more high-percentage layup. I get the people saying he would get a lot of offensive fouls called, but with all the turnovers, what's the difference? Honestly, at least with an offensive foul, it doesn't automatically launch a fast break for the other team. Besides, it's not like we would be throwing him the ball at the free throw line and asking him to bull to the basket from there - I am just talking about those plays where he attempts that weird hook shot, when he is already close enough to the basket to dunk anyway, and therefore not nearly as much risk of getting an offensive foul, as he would be jumping more 'up' than forward or backward, as the case may be.
It's certainly true that he's just fine when he does get to the rim. Dwight is shooting .716 within 3 feet, so it's a priority to get him those shots. His array of hooks, meanwhile, is leading to him shooting a putrid .357 from 3-10 feet. By comparison, D-Mo is the Rockets champion of that mid-paint area, hitting .526 on his shots from 3-10 feet while maintaining a respectable .619 rim percentage. Definitely shows the difference between those two as post-up options.
