If you want to use league showcase as a gauge then you'd be ready to vote Capela into an nba al star game or sign him to. A Max contract
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5SG3IwjkNHo https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5SG3IwjkNHo At this point this is what you expect out of Canaan in late game situations. He does it over and over and over again since high school. You better hope he's playing for you and not the other team when the 4th quarter gets here.
Harden averages around 36 mins per game. That means Canaan needs to be on the court at a min. 12 mins per game. Our entire offense is predicated on the man with the ball beating his guy off the dribble and kicking out to open 3 point shooters. Love JET and his shot making abilities but i cringe when we have him handling the rock without Harden on the court. JET is too slow these days to beat his man off the dribble. Only guy besides Harden that can do it regularly is Canaan. Oh, and McHale is McFail for failing to see this.
He's flat nasty on the offensive end. No question in my mind he's a big time scorer and playmaker at the point in the NBA. That is NBA offense. If we trade him to a team like Minnesota or Philly he'll explode offensively for them.
What the issue is between McHale/Morey and Canaan is beyond me. I can't begin to figure it out at this point. The only thing that makes sense is they are stowing him because they have a deal at the deadline for him. And that really doesn't make sense to me altogether either because now they've got him putting in minutes at RGV where he is so obviously wasting his time. So perhaps it's because we are showcasing JET. And McHale is now trying to work Shved into the rotation and has kept JET and his terrible defense in the rotation for most of the season. Canaan is a better offensive player and better defender than JET at this point in their respective careers. There is no logical explanation for him not being in the rotation. All that stuff about going to RGV to recover from injury was a flat-out lie. Does that dude look like he's still recovering from an ankle sprain? Geez Louise.
Definitely looks hurt to me. <iframe width="560" height="315" src="//www.youtube.com/embed/5SG3IwjkNHo" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe>
I get the sense that there's kind of a Lowry thing going on. I don't know what Canaan did or didn't do, but it's clear that he should be in a 3 guard rotation with Beverley and Harden, with JET getting spot minutes. I do not think this is some kind of "young playeritis". McHale played Parsons, Beverley, Black and others over more experienced players.
Holy ****. That step back jumper breaking the defender's ankles. That ballsy ice cold 3 to seal the game. This team would instantly improve if Canaan was starting.
Canaan is a tricky situation. He's too good for the D-League, not consistent enough to crack the rotation on the Rockets. I'm not sure the D-League is the right avenue for him to grow anymore. I think Johnson and Capella have made major strides because of D-League play, but I think Canaan needs to be on our roster. However, without playing time it's hard for him to gain enough consistency in his play to be a stable of the rotation. He has a crap ton of potential though.
Just Sayin. Don't be suprised if Canaan is here and playing back up point guard. I love the way the Rockets are developing players in the D-League. We usually keep those players until it's time to pay them and it's not time to pay Canaan yet. I think we use the D-League the best in the league by far.
Agree, it's not the "young playeritis". And we have heard zero about any dissention between McHale and Canaan. Canaan simply isn't a negative personality type. And all the bologna about his defense.....like I said....he's a better defender (more active) than JET.
The defense thing is just dumb. The Rockets defense did not suffer overall whatsoever while Canaan was the starter.
man, i really believe he can take the burden of scoring off of james...dude could be the 2nd best at creating his own shot...
I couldn't believe in the preseason the Rockets were contemplating keeping Ish Smith or Canaan. The games Canaan started while Beverley was out he played very well. When he was in the rotation he was pretty much our best three point shooter every night. I don't know what the kid has done to get on McHale's bad side. Yes his defense could be better and because of his height he gets stuffed at the rim a lot, but unlike Beverley and Terry he can be a secondary scorer and play maker to Harden. Hate to see this kid rotting in the D league when it's obvious he has skills that could benefit the Rockets.
