It's not the losing and winning as much as how you're losing and winning. Teams are going to be flat some games, they'll be tired other games, they'll play more talented teams sometimes, and sometimes they just won't play well. And then sometimes you play a team that knows exactly what you want to do and takes it all away from you, like tonight. Instead of adjusting to that, you keep running the same stupid things that aren't working. That's what happened tonight.
Hopefully the extension was just to keep McHale motivated for this season. Guess what? The main difference between last season and this season for the Warriors is the hiring of a good coach in Kerr and firing Jackson. They were 1st round fodder last season but are for real now Rockets are still stuck with the same old clueless, incompetent cheerleader masquerading as a coach in McHale.
Not really. Golden state is an excellent team and they executed well. They were hot everywhere. Harden was off and thus the Rockets are off. Tonight does help emphasize that this roster isn't quite complete. We need a bit more balance and that third star/ second creator. McHale did fine.
To be fair it's a personnel issue as well. When Harden is taken out of the game we have nothing from our guards and wings. If curry is taken out of the game they still have Klay, Livingston, and to a lesser extent Iggy.
A. It is a roster dominated by 2 way players killing one that is too one dimensional. B. McHale flat out got owned by Kerr - their entire game plan on less than 24 hours mind you was miles better than ours. When you get your primary option shut down, you need to have a plan B, we don't have a plan B - that is a problem. DD
Correct. Morey, are you reading this? Get off your fat ass and start scouting replacements. This team can add all the players it wants but with McHale as coach, it will never be good enough to advance past the first.
Speights and Bogut are two of their biggest offense generators with Curry on the bench. This is a 1 man team with a gimmick offense. It's been known forever
i'm not so sure about that. with the right matchup this team could advance to the 2nd round. it is true, however, that no nba team will ever get to the finals with mchale as head coach.
ever since his contract extension, the team has been playing less than inspired basketball. coasting through the lesser opponents, and losing to better teams. my criticism of McHale is the same as before. he's reactive to making changes in the rotation rather than taking the pro-active approach. not just this season but throughout his tenure with the Rox. Dragic played sparingly until Lowry got hurt. Dmo was not counted on until Jones out with an injury. Bev got the starting nod over......well, really because we didn't have anyone else reliable. i don't understand why Shved isn't getting more playing time. always thought he's a poor man's Dragic and may even be a better fit now because he's not ball dominant and complements Harden's game well. he's got length, makes good decision on the court, and can shoot. had good stints with the Wolves and 76ers, is someone Morey was high on, and now that we have him, you don't see him much except during blowouts. as much as i love Bev's hustle and heart, he's just not starting material. he could come in and wreak havoc for 15 mins going mach 3 on fire, and be that spark plug who provides energy off the bench. i really wish McHale has the foresight and courage to make changes in the rotation instead of waiting for someone to get hurt. when Harden was playing like MVP, he covers alot of our deficiencies in our guard rotation. but with games like this tonight, our guards were exposed. what i'd like to see is to have Harden and Shved start, and Bev coming in for 15~20 for Shved and Terry about 10 mins subbing for Harden.
Exactly. Coaching is what KILLED US tonight and will KILL us in the playoffs. Our limited offensive sets and poor personel choices like starting bev over Canaan is killing us. Perhaps and embarrasing 1st round exit will cause Mchale to be fired this year.
that's what people thought the previous couple years. and now les has already preemptively shot down that notion for this year as well.
After recent events and comments by Les, I think I have to agree with you. Les might be the biggest problem with this team.
"Daryl...you're the smartest guy I've ever known...but you're too stupid to see that McHale should have been fired years ago" - Hank Schrader - Breaking Bad Daryl is supposedly a really smart guy. I can't believe he would continue to endorse a coach who emphasizes isolation, turnovers, and little to no ball movement. Did this group not watch this past years NBA Finals?? I'm not saying we are as good as that Spurs team, but they showed the entire world how to play the game of basketball. The Spurs pass up good shots to get great shots, and are constantly passing the ball around the perimeter and into the post making the defense work. Meanwhile we pull up for three on a 3 on 1 fast break. I don't care how talented we are, elite talent can't overcome inept decision making.
LOL I love when peons come at me. 99% of the criticisms in this thread are whiny reactionary 20/20 hindsight moans. Please clue me in. I'd love to hear a good take on coaching, cause I pretty sure whatever nonsense you come at me with will be the same garbage that filled the rest of this thread. Bottom line is, tonight exposed our personel issues and had little to do with coaching. McHale attacked his match up advantage in Howard on Bogut with relative success and his rotations were fine. Despite Harden coming out slow, we hung with them until the third quarter where the post ups just stopped working and a few costing turnovers led to fastbreaks and easy baskets. With Harden being off, McHale swapped him out early in the third in order to try and get him in a groove by playing a few minutes against backups towards the end of the quarter and early fourth. All these coaching moves were smart and PJ or Pop would have lost tonight as well. Our team just isn't good enough to hang with an elite (if not the best) if Harden isn't playing like an MVP. It really has nothing to do with McHale. GSW are a very stacked team and have very few weaknesses. Not only are they stacked, but tonight they happened to be shooting the ball very well. Your welcome on the lesson. This one is free.
