I love D-mo, and he is great defensively, but he's not as good as Green on D. Green is one of the very elite. D-mo has a much higher offensive ceiling to become a true 2 way guy though.
Okay, Green gets more blocks and rebounds. I admit, I haven't watched a lot of GSW games this year, so I can't comment about his abilities to help off the screen, rotate and box out. All I have is stats, and there is one interesting number in those stats that show just how similarly good these two players are on defence. It's the difference between the usual FG% of a player and FG% while he's being defended by Green or DMo. These guys are each more effective than the other on different spots of the floor. But if you look at 6ft or closer, DMo keeps his opponents just below 50% (while their usual FG% is 59%), while D.Green makes a little less of an impact and keeps his opponent at 54.6% (only 3.9% down from the usual 58.6% FG from his opponents at that range). D. Green's numbers Spoiler DMo's Spoiler
I think they tried to make an entry pass to DMo 1 or maybe 2 times, but changed their minds. DMo didn't have any post-ups tonight, which is astounding...
He plays the right way, he scores when he can, and passes when he sees a better shot, he is not Hakeem, he is a very efficient complimentary player. Howard on the other hand, is trying to do far too much - he rarely passes out of the post and consistently tries to bulldoze the defender....not much actual skill there TBH. DD
We did but he missed some bunnies early. Then Dwight got going, so we needed to feed him. DMo also got into foul trouble guarding Draymond Green, so he was in and out of the line-up.
Claid in start of the game mention that McHale challenge DMo make 3 in a row from corner 3, and DMo shot 8 in a row, as we see today DMo was in that good shape(make FT, and so), but still most of the touches was on rebounds, last seconds, or so.. and still we played best competitive basketball with him on the floor, when he sit just fast game, turnovers, no IQ in the game.. just sayin
Its criminal that we dont go to D-Mo postups every possesion...every team play to their strenghts...we struggle on ofense and still trying to invent hot water...do what works... go to dmo and make your opponents fear him and work on defense so they will have less strenght on offense and our defense will be better...
Here's the bottom line: 1. When DMo and Dwight are in there together, the offense should run through Harden and DMo with Dwight opposite low block. Dwight should not get a single post-up called for him when him and DMo are in there together. Dwight should play the role that Terrence played for us last year. Cleaning up the garbage and after opponents figure out they've got to send help on Harden and DMo, then Dwight can operate well against a single defender. 2. When DMo goes to the bench and Harden is in there with Dwight and Josh Smith, Harden and Dwight should run pick and roll into the quick post up for Dwight, with Smith playing cleanup. 3. When Harden and one of Dwight/DMo are in there and we've got a small ball lineup truly spreading the floor with our 4 man in the corner (Kostas)....now we can start going to some postups depending on individual matchups. That lineup is basically a lineup that can play either pick and roll or post up depending on how the opponent is playing us. But that's an opportunity for Dwight and DMo to post up when they get SINGLE COVERAGE. 3. When Harden takes a break and we have a lesser playmaker like Terry in there with one of the Dwight/DMo in there...that is when we probably focus on running post-up action with either of Dwight/DMo in there. Even if Smith is in there with one of the other 2 guys (especially DMo), post-up action should be considered. Because Terry is not an effective playmaker. He's a far, far better spot-up shooter than playmaker. In fact, with Canaan in RGV, we don't have another playmaker other than possibly Kostas that should be attempting to make plays over DMo. Our best efficiency will come through running DMo (or Dwight) in the post during that time. *** Dwight is never going to look efficient in post up play if we do not have a true floor spreader at the 4 that can drag their defender away from him. DMo does afford a little more space than Terrence does for Dwight to operate and DMo is a superior passer and superior playmaker to Terrence in the paint so when DMo inevitably receive the pass out he's got more options to work with. But as far as Dwight really being able to operate with DMo in there....DMo has to get out to the corner and drag his defender out there with him. That is on McHale to coach to happen. So far he hasn't done it. It's all high post (DMo) low post (Dwight). And in that set Dwight will never be ultra efficient offensively as a post up option. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- And that is our Achilles heal. Morey has worked to put this team together to defend, force the opponent into bad shots, and turn the opponent over, so we can run down in transition and either get the quick hitting PnR at the rim or the wide open 3-ball off the quick transition or the fast break dunk. It is going to be up to McHale to make our halfcourt offensive sets more efficient. Either that or we need to get 2 more defenders that get their hands on balls on the perimeter and in the paint and attempt to win a championship by going all-in on the defensive end and shutting guys down. We're good. We're very good. But we're not good enough yet. Defense has to improve to Jordan Bulls level or offense has to improve to Spurs level in half court sets.
DMo play beautifuly like hes on Atalant Hawks roster... I watched them today and they are all quick to pass... they always give up a good shot to find a teammate who is open for a better one ...they only take good shots...there is no substitute for ball movement
I swear, the Dwight apologists on this board will just make crap up to defend his abominable post game. Dwight is a terrible passer and with the exception of rare games (the GS game was one of them), almost never passes out of the post. And as we saw in GS, he's just as likely to pass it to the opposing team.
and hes very slow to pass... not in the right time...he only suceed to pass not to lose the possesion not to assist...
