You will have to make a disney/pixar film about not taking hook shots if you want to get through to the man.
but dwight wastes tons of possesions before he gets to even take a shot... terrible just terrible for the flow of the game...pure momentum kiler... the only thing that is worse from that was watching asik butterfingers... i remembr that pissed off dalas fan who tried to bellittle our win over dallas even with a couple of staters mising he said: "no, injuries doesnt make your win even greater, because with dwight you would lose because he would insist on posting up and you would be more likely to lose..." enough said...
lol Dwight also is among the best rim protectors in the game. When he is on the floor the team is among the top defensive team and when he sits we are barely average. His defense allows a lot more offensive and that means points. Because the team is among the best defense when he plays that means other players on the team become better defensively and they become worse when he sits. (Dmo) Now Dmo used to look awesome with his post moves but he was known as a very bad finisher. In fact he was talked about being a bust. So why was he allowed to keep at it until he improved and not Dwight?
Absolutely false. DMo last year: Hook Bank Shot 1/1 Hook Shot 14/33 Jump Hook Shot 3/4 Running Hook Shot 5/6 Turnaround Bank Hook Shot 2/3 Turnaround Hook Shot 10/19 35/66 - 53.30% 53.3% is not the amazing stat he has right now (60%) but it's still way above league average and light-years ahead of Dwight. The problem last year wasn't that he couldn't make those shots, it's that he was shooting more threes and less hooks.
Dwight has to take his shots right at the rim. Pretty much anything in the paint even the hooks he does a decent job of. But those turn around hook outside the paint are just...ugh
boy the rockets were realy wasting his potential if he doesnt become a great 3pt shooter to expand on his postup skills
If Dwight just stuck to pick & rolls and hand-offs, then he'd be averaging 20+ ppg right now. But nooooo, HE HAS to do post-ups. I hold my breath every time we feed him in the post. Most likely, it'll always result in a turnover or an easy miss.
lol If Dmo doesn't improve his 3 point shooting and stretch the floor he will become a back up to Dwight only. The team needs a stretch 4 or a back up center.
OP stats aren't even showing the entire picture. Dwight makes 40% of his hooks. That's not even showing how many times he turns it over in the process. His post awareness and mechanics just aren't that good, and at this point, I don't see any major jumps in progress in the future.
He's already improved his 3pt shot. Over the last 28 games he's shooting 36% on threes. Statistically speaking, leaving DMo open is a very losing play.
Personally I think Dwert should never touch the ball unless its above the cylinder on an alley or a rebound but if he does, he needs to be no further than 10 ft from the basket. Its seems like more and more he settles for post ups further and further than 15ft away cause he lets his man push him out there. His best move is the pump fake, dribble, clear out and put in. Or the sweep through, pump fake and put in. Those moves are his best chance to draw an and-1. He is also quick enough STILL to get past his defenders with the pump fake even if the defender hesitates for a sec. His athleticism is definitely gone and should not relied upon.
lol Best bet is for him to keep post up and improve that play so when the post season comes he will be able to do it more consistently. The west conference playoffs are going to be a hard slug with matchups against teams with two big men rim protectors. Howard starts making that shot more then one of them big men will have to move further away from the basket. That means we have an opening.
So you're saying he's going to get better at it in 30+ games despite not being able to improve in 10 years he's been in the league?
Nah, he's saying that if you cut out Dwight's post ups all together he won't be comfortable if you need that production in the Playoffs...You'd essentially be taking away a dimension out of your offense/one of your stars...Dwight may not be effective in the post, but he still draws attention and doubles on occasion due to his prescence...We have been limiting them in recent games as we should, but cutting out post ups isn't really our best bet in my opinion haha
lol Exactly. It is not just for Dwight but for other players to learn how to play the post up game by learning how to inbound the ball to the post. This not only helps Dwight but Dmo and any other player that is going to post up. IMO they need to do it sooner before the defense sets up on the post player. If Howard just PnR that can and will be defensed well in the playoffs. Dmo had a hard time against the double teams with no Dwight on the floor but if he can practice it more against the same teams we will see in the playoffs he should improve. Also now we have Josh and Papa back and they are a lot better at post play and getting the ball where it needs. I would rather now then later to gel in this area. Dwight is about the best center in the NBA and he will be playing a lot in the playoffs. Dmo just has to earn playing time.
Dwight does not look like himself for the past 2 months or so. As of right now, he's not a top 5 center. Remember when he couldn't even score in the post with Bargnani guarding him last season? You are just straight up hating on DoMo. He has already earn that spot and the playing time.
