I don't think bostons TPE from rondo is large enough. Philly does have space.....so they'd need compensation to take on his expiring since he doesn't fit their plans. Maybe DM and hinkie can work something out that gets dragic here?
I know I'm pulling things off topic and I apologize. On further inspection I see man hands and feet. Not that there's anything wrong I'm just saying
Either trading DMo for a PG with a reasonable salary, or a 3-team deal where we need more salary to send to that 3rd team. Don't be so sure the Nets don't want to dump the contract.
Agreed. I would only add that maybe Morey would like to see if he can acquire Lopez instead and immediately flip him (i.e., three team deal) for something he wants. I seriously doubt Morey wants Lopez, the player, but Lopez, the trade asset? Maybe. Got to love how active, and creative, Morey is. Drives other teams crazy but that is how to to this job (GM) and do it well.
I will only add that Brooklyn is SO VERY OBVIOUSLY trying to slash payroll. If they can get something valuable for Brook Lopez, they will. But if they must accept expiring contracts, and nothing else, they will. Some players are worth less than zero. That is, cap space (in the form of expiring contracts) is more valuable than this player, at this price. Brook Lopez, at his price < NOTHING (and expiring contracts = cap space = nothing). So: if Morey can trade NOTHING (e.g., expiring contracts) for Lopez, then ship Lopez with, say, the Pelicans pick and/or Donatas Motiejunas or Terrence Jones or Clint Capela, for somebody good, YES, that is a great deal. But understand tbat this very likely what Morey is doing here.
Neither team wanted him because he's of absolutely no value in any way. A teams not just going to say "yeah, let me pay someone else a bunch of money just cause!" The rockets play here, if any, is a super long shot 4 team deal: Phoenix, Brooklyn, Houston for the key pieces and 4th team to take the contracts Houston trades. Philly or Boston or someone else might be willing to take KPap, Capela, Canaan, Johnson types because those are youn guys with futures. It'd be a pretty complex deal of course.
Maybe something like this: BKN Out: Lopez BKN In: HOU 2nd or if needed NYK 2nd PHX Out: dragic and tucker PHX In: Lopez + NOP 1st PHI Out: (cap space) PHI In: Kpap + Capella + Johnson + Tucker HOU Out: KPap + Capella + Johnson + NOP pick + HOU or NYK 2nd HOU In: Dragic Does this work?
Seems Brooklyn is following the tried and true limit your liabilities to make it more attractive to buyers approach. DD
Hell, no. Dragic >>>>>>>> Lopez. This works: Brook Lopez and filler (Markel Brown or Corey Jefferson) to Miami; Chris Andersen (who Brooklyn presumably then attempts to flip), Kostas Papanikolaou, and Jason Terry to Brooklyn; Luol Deng and filler (Markel Brown or Corey Jefferson) to Houston. Miami gets Lopez for their expensive backup C (Andersen, nice player, but he's old, and expensive for a backup C) and a player who is going to become an unrestricted free agent and sign with somebody else this summer (Deng). I think Brook Lopez sucks, especially given his price tag, but Pat Riley apparently likes the guy. Houston gets Deng for simply facilitating the trade. Maybe Houston throws in Nick Johnson, or a second round pick (to Brooklyn). This is the sort of deal that Morey is trying to pull off here (IMO).
Of course dragic > Lopez but Lopez is a decent big not to mention a #13 pick is included in that for dragic who is a UFA flight risk.
They have like 4 pgs stacked at one position so that hasn't stopped them before. But beyond that if they feel they need to move dragic for something the driver isn't so much fit but value. Lopez gives them someone who can produce more than their other bigs right now and gives them the chance to chose which they want to keep. If Lopez works well Plumlee/Len/wright can be move later when an opportunity presents itself. It's slim pickings for PHX right now so they may have to just get the BPA and make it work or flip later. Plus that NOP pick is the kicker.
No, Brook Lopez is an injury prone, grossly overrated, grossly overpaid mediocrity who cannot rebound very well, cannot defend very well, cannot even shoot for a very high percentage. The number of team willing to give up much more than expiring contracts and a Nick Johnson-caliber prospect is at or very close to zero. It is unlikely that Phoenix trades Goran Dragic but if they do then expect them to get some good stuff, and Brook Lopez Is NOT good stuff.
