Grand Budapest Hotel bluray on sale at best buy for 6$ if you're a fan. Also am disappointed Lego Movie got left out, maybe it doesn't fully count as animated?

Why has no one ever seen Star Jones & Al Sharpton at the same time?

Anyway, stop deflecting and pay your taxes b-tch.

It is, there might have been some disappointment with the plot resolution and overall plausibility of the two principals being such deft operators. The notion that public perception could ultimately override survival instincts or moral clarity could have been too jarring for some critics, particularly if they subconsciously paralleled it against their own marriage. Pike was so amazing compared to everything else I've ever seen her in. I hate to make such a comparison but to the extent that Basic Instinct and Stone set a certain tone and standard for thrillers, this is the only film that's actually met and supplanted it.

Affirmative Action for Oscar nominees based on US population distribution?

    - This means at least 2 of the 20 acting nominees must be African American (roughly 10%).
    - At least every other year there must be one African American nominated for best director
    - There must be at least 1 African American writer nominated every year for one of the two writing categories.

    and to be fair...
There should be 3 Hispanic actors nominated every year and one Asian, etc. for the rest of the categories.

Samuel L. Jackson had a great response to this in an interview a while back, "so, who do you want from Soul Plane and White Chicks to be nominated?"

I think you can certainly look at Affirmative Action in the "hiring" process as you do with any other employment situation (e.g. hiring directors for films, as part of the casting process, etc.), but not for awards. It HAS to be based on merit. I don't think Hollywood, being as liberal as it is, wants to screen out actors/directors from awards based on color. Matter of fact, they pride themselves on bestowing awards to people like Sidney Poitier, Edward James Olmos, Denzel Washington, etc. But when you're not hiring enough people of color, you don't have as much of a talent pool from which to choose from.

Besides, Selma wasn't going to win Best Picture anyway. The Academy never gives awards to two films with similar themes back to back- or at least it's extremely rare. With 12 Years a Slave winning last year, it's just extremely unlikely that Selma is going to come near a Best Picture win.

Apparently Kevin Hart is the only black actor employed in Hollywood.

Can't they just give Morgan Freeman a lifetime achievement award or something and Sharpton can go back to collecting kickbacks to not release the hounds?

That was hilarious during the announcement when she said Dick Poop instead of Dick Pope. It's also disgusting.

Even when the part is written for an Asian . . .. they won't get it
There are people upset because Scarlet Johanson is in Ghost in the Shell
They feel it should be an Asian Actress for the Asian character

    Rocket River
not just Asian .. but i believe Japanese
Alot of Anger over casting Chinese ot play Japanese characters too
Just because you don't hear about it. . .don't mean it is not out there

    *chuckle*

Similar themes? The Theme that black people existed in a time frame before yesterday *lol*
Sorry making jokes at your expense

in all honestly. . . . I think SELMA is the best movie I have seen in years
I did not like 12 years a Slave [black folx are tire of slave movies. . . . we have done some other things besides be slaves ]

    While I thought
    Ava DuVernay [Director]
    and
    David Oyelowo [Played Martin]
did a hell of a job . .. their lack of nominations are neither surprising or upsetting to me
    [i don't care for award shows ]

I find OSCAR does alot of . . . pay you for years of service type things
    Big on the networking etc

Denzel should have won for X or REMEMBER THE TITANS
both were stronger than Train Day for me

I think Pachino had better roles than Scent of a Woman but that is what he won it for

So . . I am neither bothered nor upset
    It is what it is . . .. .

but please. . . GO SEE SELMA . . it is a very Strong picture

This year had no front runners like last year, as the field were all quality movies which might make it seem weaker or not good. Honestly it like the Eastern Conference (2014, emotional films) vs Western Conference (2015, artistic films) as top down all those movies nominated are solid. (Aside from Boyhood which I haven't seen but wanted to).

Jake G getting snubbed for some real good portrayals. I thought for sure Nightcrawler was going to get him a nomination.

Birdman should win it, on pure "artistry" one of the better films in recent memory.

Disappointed in Clint for the direction he took American Sniper. I read the book and I think he missed the point

As somebody who didn't read the book but really liked the movie, would you care to explain what was wrong with Eastwood's direction? I know there was some controversy surrounding the book but never found out what it was all about. Would really appreciate it.
