I think you are missing my point. I am not saying what he said was offensive. Personally it didn't offend me. I didn't think it was particularly funny either. I would imagine gynecologists see so many that it's just another body part after a while...unless they have a fetish. My point is that saying something "was a joke" isn't a way to get out of something. Take accountability. Own it. Joke or not, you said it and that's that. Either stand by what you said as being the way you roll, or apologize. One or the other. But don't say, "oh I was just joking".
But wasn't it a direct question in an interview though. I don't even consider that answer an apology, the Rockets website just calls it one. "I'm going to leave the comedy to the professionals." And yeah, that joke is a pretty well used one. smh at people using Morey's joke to get hits on their blogs like hungry Twitter predators. I'm super glad he didn't do one of those lame apologies vs twitter. And super super glad Les didn't force a formal apology through PR.
Yeah I wish he hadn't expressed any contrition at all. Unfortunately the only people who matter when it comes to deciding what's considered offensive are the feminist bloggers etc. & it's common knowledge they don't want you referencing the vagina, even indirectly. Should have known better. I think he's lucky they didn't feel this called for a higher level of activism.
Typically the PR department apologies are WAY more irritating and insulating than the actual act itself.... "I want to sincerely express my sorrow and apologize to all of those who I have offended by my callous.... blah blah."
