Barkley didn't do **** in the offseason to come into camp in shape but he gave 100% every night on the court as a Rocket. The Bulls game where Olajuwon and Drexler were out and it was Barkley & Harrington against the world... we never had a chance to win the game but Barkley never let up. He gets a bad reputation with Rockets' fans it seems. But I cant understand why.
And folks will continue to cry. Why don't they like us?! Shaq, leave Dwight alone! Charles, leave us alone!
If I remember correctly, we got older because we traded Horry, Sam, and Chucky for Barkley (wore #4). But with that being said, both Pippen and Barkley were in their early 30's when we got them and both had plenty plenty plenty of gas in the tank. Getting Pippen and Barkley at the time was like getting Dirk and Kobe on the Duncan led Spurs. They were far from being old farts...
They are gonna have a field day tonight. When we lose to OKC they are going to crown OKC as Western Conference champs.
Man this talk of Chuck makes me think back... All I remember back then were the trades for Horry and Cassell and the one that didn't go through for Sean Elliot from the Pistons and asking myself why did we break up this championship team? Why are we doing this? Even Seeing Sam Crying, I was mad for a bit. You don't get rid of core pieces that make up a championship squad. It took us like 8 seasons straight going to the playoffs and bringing guys in and out before we found the right combination to play with Dream. Once you find the right combo you don't want just mess with the recipe. Even by that same logic I will be honest and it might be sacrilegious for a Rockets fan to say this but at that time I remember I was not all giddy about trading Otis Thorpe for Clyde and we all know Clyde is a hometown guy who played with Dream at UH with the whole phi slamma jamma glory days. Even with all that magnificent love and history I wasn't happy about trading Otis Thorpe and if you think about it we also lost Mad Max in that deal. We got by with Chucky Brown and won it all which was a great story in itself no doubt but it was a real vacancy Thorpe left behind which then brought us to..... Barkley...*sigh*. My honest feelings, I wish Thorpe had retired a Rocket and I don't like messing with Chemistry once you have it. Championship chemistry is like the Philosophers stone. That's also what makes me nervous about Morey...will he have the wisdom to not repeat mistakes from the past? He has a hair trigger for trades... But at least we have some good history and we shocked the sh@#t out the world in 94!!.... That was so beautiful... I smile when I see it replayed on hardwood classics and reminisce.
And if the Rockets win they will be talking about OKC and how they haven't been playing well and they're just not good right now.
We all know the trade. Point still remains Thorpe is older than Barkley (most ppl here wouldn't guess that), and #33 is a different person, different year. You don't know the #33 story. rookie
Chuck: 1. Garnett is old and can't play anymore so he wants to fight. 2. Dwight Howard, same with Blake, you have to fight sometimes because you can't let people disrespect you. Howard has to fight in certain situations. You have to throw blows. As a player, there's certain situations, the night me and Shaq got into it, for the rest of my team, I got to let them know you can't throw a ball at me. Shaq: (Agrees with Chuck) You have to let people know I'm here also. You have to throw blows. Keny: I saw a 20-year vet having passion for the game. Chuck: That's why I never thought the Rockets were legit contenders. Kenny: Because of that? Chuck: Yes, because of that.
these guys get paid millions to analyze and this is the **** they come up with?!?!? can they just be open and honest about it, they're entertainers not analyst.
Say this much about NBA/TNT. At least it's funny... But only whenever it's not trying to be. Reg. the quote: had to be one of the dumbest things I've ever heard. The Rockets aren't contenders because Dwight didn't punch KG hard enough?? What does that even mean? With about 10 guys in between him and KG, what was he supposed to do... DDT him? What does this have to do with basketball? If the Rockets are or aren't contenders it's because of their best player and current MVP. Dwight Howard doesn't need to be Billy Bad A$& to win a title... He just needs to be Dwight Howard on D. Oh and by the way NBA/TNT... Yes we know you can use photoshop. It was funny back in 2001. Chill on the photoshop every once in awhile.
We won, all that matters......old sensitive retired players commenting is like a fly buzzing behind a bulls butt.
I prefer Barkley to Shaq, but one of them has to go. Kenny used to actually get to talk. Now it's just the Shaq and Barkley show. And it's not as good.
but shaq doesn't make that great, the crazy/silly plays do. easily get rid of him and keep the segment 'actin a fool.
