As messed up as likening Hitler to the Prophet of a religion is, I'll still bite on this. I'm not saying that you don't have the right to draw a person, I'm saying you're crossing a line by doing so. If you're okay with offending people, whether it be a religious group or a radical fundamentalist group, that is your right. But why do it? What does it achieve? It's like trying to engage a debate with someone and then resorting to name calling. It's a tactic for sure, but why not be above it? I don't understand what is so tempting about drawing a man/prophet/God that shouldn't be drawn. I also don't understand why people would be stupid enough to kill for that. People have Photoshopped Obama in horrific ways, I haven't felt the need to pick up a gun and kill.
So says you. That's what you believe. Me drawing Jesus is that matter is within my right, and like the Muslims the Christians would be equally offended if I did so.
I seem vindictive because I hate a murderer and a pedophile? How has religion and religious personal become so infallible? How does the golden rule apply here? I believe that every human has natural rights: "life, liberty and property" and those rights shall not be infringed. I don't see anywhere in our current understanding of natural rights where "no being offended" is one of them. When someone deserves to be offended, they should be offended. If someone praises and believes that a mass murderer and pedophile is infallible they deserve to be offended.
What's the point of freedom speech if you weren't allowed to offend anyone. That is what freedom of speech is for. To protect people who say offensive things. What is written in the Quran is offensive to some Christians and Jews. Should it be outlawed?
Why isn't Seth Mcfarlene or Trey Parker dead? Why are they not receiving mass death threats by Christians? I'm assuming you have watched South Park or Family Guy. These two shows are two of the most popular cartoons in a majority Christian nation yet they destroy the character of Jesus on multiple episodes. Could you imagine that a cartoon that criticizes Muhammad being the most popular cartoon in a Muslim dominant nation?
I don't know? Decency? Respect? Maturity? Same things parents teach little kids, maybe I'm lost... Do you curse around older people or talk loudly in a movie theater?
Why should we respect a human who raped a 9 year old? Why should we respect a war lord who ordered the murder of thousands? I'd curse an elderly person if they raped a 9 year old.
Just because you can doesn't mean you should, but the right for someone to curse out older people should be protected. You can not have freedom of speech without freedom to offend, and you can't have freedom of religion without the freedom speech. Therefore, you can not have freedom of religion without the freedom to offend. If you want to practice you religion without fear, you are going to have to deal with being offended sometimes.
Are you really trying to argue respect for a dead entity? You think he cares? HE'S DEAD. It's not the entity of Mohammed, it's the people who believe in the religion. Respect the people.
If you think Christians, especially fundamentalists, are not insulted at the actions of those two shows then I advise you to do some research. Hell, the Simpsons was under attack for years by the church for doing far less. Like I have said on multiple occasions, attacking this groups through humor does not warrant violence. Also, the degree in which these attacks are lodged is also not the same. How Muslims perceive the drawing of the prophet, in their society, is far worse than even the worst Family Guy joke. Do I agree with that? Well, it doesn't matter what I think because I am not being made fun of here. At the end of the day, you have to ask, what is the point of the joke. If I choose to be blasphemous, what goal does it serve? If it is to attack people, then the cause isn't as noble. In terms of what South Park does a lot of the time, the jokes they make are there to show how we all are idiots in what we do. It shows while we are different we are all actually really similar in our hypocrisy and our inability to empathize (or sympathize, I use both incorrectly I admit).
The freedom should be there, but, like yelling fire in a movie theater, we must also be wise in when we use said freedom. If the goal is to anger, belittle, and even offend, as mature adults part of a peaceful society we should understand that those actions go against our goals. Your liberty ends where my nose begins.

It's a two-way street. Show none, and get none. I will never respect any religion anymore than I would respect the views of the Heaven's Gate cult who thought a spaceship following the Hale-Bopp comet would pick them up. That doesn't mean that I'm going to go around and try to antagonize religious people...I won't do that. At the same time, though, I will not sit there silently anymore while religious people scream at the top of their lungs. If I am rating the world's religions, Islam is, without doubt, at the bottom of the list. I don't care if that offends someone. I have traveled around multiple Muslim countries and the treatment of the women there was offensive to me. These bad ideas, as Bill Maher has been calling them, need to be addressed and brought into the 21st century. Hell, if they'd bring it into the 19th century, we'd be making progress.
And being offended is not an assault on ones "nose" which in this context means physical harm. That analogy has nothing to do with offending someone. Yelling fire in a crowded movie theater can cause a direct line to physical harm. Offending someone doesn't.
I don't see a point in attacking him. You allege that Mohammed isn't morally above all others. That is your right. I believe that Jesus was either hooking up with Mary Magdalen or a homosexual. We have our beliefs. However, I don't feel the need to go on the attack against millions of Christians. I think the Church's stances on premarital sex/homosexuality (as well as violence in the middle ages) are a direct hypocrisy to a man/God that was peaceful and who engaged in gay/premarital sex. Do you think I should make my own cartoon about it?
You are arguing for the respect for a dead entity, not me. Why should it matter that millions find it offensive to criticize and offend his legacy? In fact for that reason alone we should offend. The notion that millions find him as a perfect moral example of how to live our lives deserves to be offended.
Oh I believe in the right. I'm so happy to be born in this great country that gives me that right. This isn't about restricting rights, this is about GROWING THE **** UP and taking the high road.
Attacking someone's belief system, is attacking them (albeit verbally). What you have a hard time in understanding is that I do not condone a violent response. What I am saying is that showing restraint isn't such a bad thing. Go into a predominantly black neighborhood and yell the N-word. Do you deserve to get the crap kicked out of you? No. Will it happen? Maybe. Should you consider not doing it to preserve the peace? Yes.
