Seriously? A poster mentions she's female and the first thing you do is ask for pics? Exhibit A as to why people get offended at these jokes. Because many men view women as nothing more than boobs and vaginas. I do respect Morey, and I know its not a popular opinion on this board but I do think the joke wasnt a good move for someone as high profile on a forum as public as twitter, especially considering our current PC landscape. I can keep going but its futile I feel. Lay off the p*rn folks, it rots your brain.
The joke makes a wrong analogy. Guys like Morey become NBA GMs because they LIKE even LOVE basketball (as fans) in the first place. If a doctor says that he became a OBGYN because he liked looking at and touching women's vaginas, he'd be damned. I am pretty sure gynecologists would not want people to think of them that way. In fact, many women do not want male gynecologists precisely because of that.
It's a joke Morey probably heard somewhere and enjoyed it, and he thought he could use it in that context. I'm sure he regrets the decision once he gets Internet back and sees all his mentions.
This exact incorrect analogy is what makes the joke humorous. Therefore, the joke makes the right analogy. What's being done wrong here is taking a joke at face value.
I think that's a misinterpretation of what he meant. I seriously doubt he meant this in a derogatory way and that interpretation is a stretch. Basketball is his job...it's something he looks at very differently and in a much different context than the common fan...everyday...because it's his job. In a professional sense he'll look at basketball from a different angle than fans would. He's saying that he still enjoys basketball like a common fan would. For example he would enjoy a great dunk because of the awe factor, not just analyze it as 1/1fg, 2 points, and a high percentage play. Because he is professionally involved with basketball doesn't mean he can't like it as a common fan. The same way an OBGYN will professionally treat a woman's body in a hospital setting...everyday...because it's his (assuming male for this example) job. And that treatment is in a whole different context than how people normally treat women (not saying good or bad...just highlighting the parallel btw a GM-common nba fan and male OBGYN-common man). A male OBGYN can do his job but still be attracted to women just as other non-obgyn males are attracted to women. I think that's all he was saying...
I'm pretty sure he was being sarcastic, or at least I hope so, but if he wasn't, he is probably 12 and doesn't matter anyways. That's not the main reason I chose to respond though. I hate the "many men view women as nothing more than boobs and vagina" spiel. Both genders look for what they want specifically in a mate. Most mature individuals indeed look for personality traits as well as physical, but we all judge based on what we desire. Guys, girls, transgenders, etc. they all judge prospective partners by their own set of standards. It's not just a male thing to be superficial, it is problem with American culture where we idolize attractive people. So don't blame "men looking at women as t*** and ass" on Joe Schmoe for being an idiot and asking for pictures on a forum. Blame the actual culture that created ol' Joey. Even though I still think he was being facetious... or is 12.
Whats wrong with all these oversensitive guys? What is this, the 1950's? It was just an innuendo. I really question the testosterone level on this site sometimes. A lot of you need to visit the Low T Centers of America. Tweet was fine. Je suis Morey!
Oh come on. I think people need to grow a thicker skin. Too many people are walking around looking for a reason to be offended like it is a d*mn scavenger hunt. "oh look such and such made a comment about homosexuality, I need to be offended. 12 points, Oh yea. Well DM of the rox posted about fun caves, surely that is worth 14 points". If you are offended. Don't follow him. Otherwise STOP WHINING. Jesus
I don't disagree with anything you said. To clarify, I was not particularly bothered myself with moreys comment. I don't think it was wise, and much backlash will come of it. It shows something about our culture, as you said, and makes light of a very important and sensitive job. But in the end not a huge deal. The internet culture of people asking for pics anytime someone says they are a woman is discusting though.
You've gotta love what the 24 hour news cycle has done for random Nit-Twits. Everybody has a voice now, and it's terrible. Morons all over the place decide what's a story and what's not.
It's a freaking joke people and a damn funny one at that. Why be so uptight about this? We have real issues in this world, go jump on one of those and do some good. Stop piling on someone for something that means nothing in the grand scheme of things. Sheesh people.
