As I argued then, the Texans likely were the best team in the NFL after the 2011 season - they certainly were prior to Schaub's injury (according to sites like Football Outsiders). They were on pace to win 11 in '11 and they won 12 in '12. Matt Schaub was a very viable excuse; statistically, he was one of the 5-10 best QBs in football. There was absolutely no reason to rock the boat and kick Peyton Manning's tires. Why? How many more games do you win with Peyton Manning? Again, they won 12 without him. And I think the SF situation is apples to oranges - Alex Smith wasn't as good as Schaub and, more importantly, he wasn't Harbaugh's guy. As we know now, he couldn't wait to jettison him. The Kubiak/Schaub dynamic was totally different. Again, what, exactly, was the upside? They were 19-7 with Schaub ('11-'12), including a 15-1 stretch. It's not like it was a 8-9 win team that needed to get over the hump. Manning doesn't elevate them any higher than they were. And he's certainly no guarantee of greater postseason success. Do I go back and do the switch now? Sure, of course. But who knew the absolute worst case scenario would play out?
Uhm, no. Schaub had 4 years of 92+ QB ratings; Freeman had 16 games. Schaub was a legitimately good, potentially great NFL QB in 2011.
Remii was a really big Josh Freeman fan, that's why he's bringing that up. Just about everyone saw that as a fluke season. That's why you don't make important decisions based on outliers or small samples....like the ridiculousness going on in the Cardale Jones thread.
Potentially great... Lol... Schaub didn't play a complete season and had a limited number of passes in 2011... The offense was all about the run game (didn't we have two 1000 yard rushers that year...?) which is probably why they were able to continue winning with a late round drafted rookie quarterback... Many Texans fans put Schaub on a pedestal he shouldn't be.
That's because they were jackhammering teams every week. They won the four games prior to Schaub's injury by a combined score of 132-42. Schaub's QB rating in '11 was 96.8 with a 8.5 YPA. He was having a STELLAR season. Your memory is, not surprisingly, fuzzy. They were 7-3 with Schaub averaging 28.3/game; 4-4 without him averaging 19/game. But yeah, sure - kept on winning ,etc. It's to lift him out of the deep hole too many angry, ill-informed fans threw him. He was a tremendously good QB for four years and 12 games before going fetal. He's gone; it's over - you won. It's OK to admit a QB posting 92+ QB rating every year with 4,000+ yards and limited TOs is actually a nice thing to have.
why are people talking about Oakland's 3rd string QB? Get over it, he's gone & currently backing up baby carr & matt mcgloin.
Not sure that the Jets and Texans have been the most successful franchises. If we get the NE FO's people, then we'd be talking.
When people are interested in your low level people to fill high level jobs on their franchise, it shows that they are viewed favorably by people that matter.....as opposed to people who don't matter, like fans.
Fair, but the opinion of those who matter on low level franchises is infinitely more valuable than that of random posters on a basketball blog be it you, me, or the undesirables on my blocked list.
