I'm hoping (crossed fingers) that Strong knew this year would be very tough, and he was preparing for the future. He did mention before the season that he did not have high expectations, we won't win the championship, etc. For the sake of him and the fans, I hope his gamble to hold back players like Heard pays off. On recruiting, my guess is Strong is going to the players he absolutely has to have and telling them to get on board before it is too late.
There was too many early signings. Having nearly your entire class every year signing as juniors turned out to be very damaging. Seems like many of those guys developed and were never able to break some very bad habits.
This. It was almost an embarrassment of riches for UT after their Junior Days but sloppy evaluations and lack of room for late bloomers eventually caught up. It's refreshing to hear coaches putting in the work, pulling some kids out of SEC country, and making huge pushes down the stretch.
Mack cancels Texas visit. Sucks. http://www.hornsports.com/forums/blog/1/entry-80-5-star-daylon-mack-cancels-texas-visit/
It doesn't matter. This is the one time in his life he will get this opportunity. Good luck to him and all the young men making this type of decision.
Think you meant he added Auburn. He scheduled the A&M visit after Chavis was brought in. Sucks since we only have 1 DT commit and Mack is an elite prospect but better knowing now than later. Auburn is also making a big push for Tim Irvin which would be a big loss IMO.
Saw some of his HS film. He was truly a phenom. Don't know what happened at UH, but he seemed to "lose it" the beginning of his second season. I think coaching was a factor. Shame he didn't give the new coach a chance to "right the ship." He has enormous potential.
Agreed. We have something like 5 scholarships left. We really should try to hold 2 or 3 for any potential interesting transfer or JUCO QB we can find that could step in immediately. We can't really function for another season with the crap they had this year.
They should be. They need to take a hard look at this kid. I was at the Texas bowl. That was one of the most pathetic offensive performances I have ever seen. How UT can still be "snooty" after that abomination is beyond me. UT should be desperate to improve.
The guy from UH is ineligible to play next year due to transfer restrictions- there's no point in going after him.
Radio in Austin was saying Strong will want 4 scholarship QBs on campus at all times. We have 2 right now with that gray shirt from New Mexico. They are still thinking about the future.
Who knows what he actually knows, but Jameis says the guy is coming to Texas: http://www.cbssports.com/collegefoo...-instagram-that-john-okorn-will-play-at-texas That said, we need someone that can help us this year. There's no way we need another year of transition.
UT has Jerrod Heard (4 star dual threat QB) who they think is ready to compete this coming season. They also have Zach Gentry that will be on the team this season and Kia Locksley who is coming in for an official visit this month. Kia is committed to FSU but they think they have a legit shot at flipping him. They don't think Korn is the answer. If they can't flip Kia Locksley then maybe but they prefer Kia.
Nobody I have talked to that knows things thinks he is ready, or maybe will ever be. They'd have to re-tool the offense to fit his skills, because he has looked horrid in practice running what they run now. Just saying.
