You threw out three point shooting like it is a plus to TJ's game when everybody who knows anything about the Rockets knows TJ's three point game is completely unreliable. Why even mention his 40+ 3P% when it was only after three games and was obviously completely unsustainable. Very weak.
Why is a midrange jump shot important to one's post game? I think I've heard that before, and I'm just looking to learn.
It's about versatility and expanding your offensive game. Once power forwards start guarding him tighter in the mid range then he can use his speed to beat most off the dribble. Also it helps the team because we can use him in more post and pop situations because he's not a great finisher in the pick and roll.
Yeah, but when your bigs will become very efficient from 3pt range, they usually will be a disaster down low and their coach will even call them out not even being a max player.
This. And he anchored the defense when Dwight was out, allowing us to maintain a top 3 NBA defense without arguably the best rim protector in the NBA. If anyone wants to see a recent example of how D-Mo does again a double team, watch the Knicks game. Yeah, I know it's the Knicks, but he straight up scores through their double team on more than one possession. For sure. Everyone clamors for the big man to become a "shooter" but then when he does he gets criticized. What are some of the biggest knocks on Griffin and Love this year? They shoot too many jumpers and do not get easy buckets in the post. This is the same criticism wing players with elite midrange games get. "Oh ______ doesn't drive anymore and settles for 18ft jumpers!" I'd rather D-Mo just keep dominating in the post and only rarely take jumpers when it is absolutely necessary to keep the defense honest.
The reason why the Stockton/Malone was so deadly was because both can hit the mid range shot at a high clip. If the defense decides to double the ball handler instead of switching, the other one is open for either a roll to the basket or a wide open mid range shot. If the defenders, decide to switch but sag off the ball handler, he will have an open mid range shot.
When you learn to read, you might be able to engage in more civil discussions. i suggested he might approach 35% from 3. I believe he CAN do that. He did post all star break last season, hitting at 34.4%. Players can improve, and if he were to hit that % for the rest of his career I would consider him 'reliable enough' as a 3 threat. Sure, we all want 40% shooters from downtown, but if your big hits at around 35, it is in the good enough category IF they are significant contributors in other eays on the offensive end.
Re-read your original post. You are totally hyping up TJ's 3 point shooting. TJ has a terrible 3 point shot. There should be no debate there. If there is, agree to disagree.
Has a pretty nice game tonight with 18/11 Post game interview all he talks about his how he should have come out better in the first half, have more intensity, and how his game could be better. Great attitude.
He is about 51+% from the field now too, his FG% has been rising since he went back into the starting lineup. DD
Can someone tweet the rockets org why the hell is josh smith shooting more than harden, dmo, Dwight, and the rest of the team
