Can't you run Brewer, Harden and Ariza just as well? I'm a Wilson Chandler fan but we just don't have a need for him as long as we have Brewer.
According to us Rockets fans, maybe. But for everyone else there's nothing that can stop the Curry/Klay lovefest.
I always viewed the argument For a 3rd Star along the lines of: "in the playoffs, when Harden's shot isn't falling, he isn't getting foul calls, and dwight is doing Dwight Things in the post, do you have another guy you can run the offense through and take over a game ?" It wasn't so much that a big 3 would be expected to all average 20+ points a night. Can we run the offense through DMo and still win ? personally, i think yes. And if not this year, then for the next 6. With Dwight's offensive decline, i see us more as a High Octane Detroit Pistons Championship Team than a modern Big 3 team. If you start with Dwight as a rich man's Ben Wallace and then work down the roster, i think we are better than, or equal to, that Detroit team at every position except starting PG. Whether a team like that is good enough to win now, 11 years later, i don't know. But i like that we can throw wave after wave of lanky, defensive minded, tough rebounding, fast breaking, 3 pt shooting (if not 3 pt making) players at the opposition. Hope Shved can play some PG.
Yeah, I don't really want to see another backcourt pairing (Lin-Harden) like that again on the Rockets.
I would love to have Lawson, and I'd take Harden over all of em. But I'm not taking harden/lawson as a package over curry/thompson
I can't find the MOREY ON 790 thread, so I'll mention here that he was on 790 this morning but I had just missed hearing it. Can't listen to the podcast at work, either. If a good samaritan wants to step in with a transcript.....
I think an interesting option would be Mario Chamlers. There's talks that the Heat may be willing to give up some pieces to gain flexibility. And as much as Chamlers is a POS to play against, he would be an upgrade to Bev in the starting lineup and has been a capable championship caliber starting PG. If the Rockets could get he and Andersen for a reasonable price (NOP pick, Jones, possibly Shved and/or Pap to balance salaries) then our team would look absolutely set. Chamlers / Bev Harden / Terry Ariza / Brewer DMo / Smith Howard / Andersen
Ty Lawson is not coming here for the trash we have to offer - well, it may not be trash but it is when compared with Lawson.
You almost never get equal value, if they are rebuilding all they would want is picks and young prospects we have that.
It seems like a lot to give up and I'm not saying we trade it all for Chalmers and Andersen, but that NOP pick loses value for our team the longer we hold on to it. I highly doubt the Rockets want to hold on to it for draft night and try and fit a rookie next year. Concerning Jones, there's no guarantee he would even contribute on this team much less get minutes when he comes back. His value is down right now and until he shows he has fully recovered. I believe if we can improve the PG situation and find a viable backup center, we can be serious contenders this year. Adding Chalmers and Andersen do exactly that, in my opinion. With OKC iffy about making the playoffs and how good this Rockets team could be this year, there's isn't a better time to go all in than now. Who knows how long Dwight last or if we can keep this team together? If trading Jones, NOP pick, etc. for Chamlers and Andersen gets us a championship, then you do it.
