You need to stop sniffing that bleach if you think I'm going to come on here to make shyt up just to support Ricky. Now if you want to say I'm wrong or the information I received is wrong _ that's fine.

I'm sorry I have no tweet. I know technology is king but information is still spread at the barbershop and in the VIP section at the strip club.

Sorry... he's just going to be rotten fruit, whatever that means (your words, not mine)

And this year's success was mostly because of Romeo (your words, not mine), even though you don't ever get that defensive coordinator without hiring a Beliheckian.

Sure, I get that, and the concern over what Manning can withstand with his surgery history still exists. Only now it's had even more wear and years tacked on. You have more information now, and as things go that can often impact your decision. I just still don't see why those 3 years - and what's either yet another injury added to that or visible decline in play on the field - passing couldn't possibly change someone's way of thinking from back in 2012.

Because in 2012 you didn't know if he could actually ever play again at a high level due to that specific neck condition. To me, that degree of unknown still outweighs the unknown of whether or not the past 8 weeks is who he really is from here on out, or whether he can get back to where he was as of October of 2014.

Also, its also not like he's taken a lot of shots/hits over the last 3 years that would clearly make him damaged goods. Its 39 year old 8 weeks removed from MVP-level play vs. 36 year old with potential career-ending neck surgery.

Its not exactly the same... but the same concerns are still there now.

(again, I'm in no way saying the Texans should make a move for him now... just saying that the two situations are pretty damn similar, and they're both gambles).

It absolutely was a gamble, Denver had nothing to lose because they weren't a good football team at the time, the Texans were already a good football team. I know you may not agree, but if they had a bit more luck when it comes to health, the Texans very well could have ended up making a deep playoff run without Manning and gotten as far or farther than the Broncos ended up making it with him.

What's funny about this IMO is that if the Texans had made the move for Manning and had gutted their roster to accommodate him they are looking at maybe one or two more playoff wins than the Texans got without Manning if everything goes right and then they'd be in a worse position than they are now. The same people whining about not getting Manning would be saying that the Texans were stupid for risking everything for a known playoff choker and talking about how much better things would have been had we not gone for Manning.

in 2011 Denver made the playoffs and won a game...

    and that was with tebow!

not sure how that equates to "not a good football team".

I know you have a deeply entrenched hatred for Ricky and blame him for EVERYTHING that goes wrong with the Texans. But I think some of your hate is misguided.

I would have rather had a legitimate shot at competing for a championship than sucking to get a head coach from the Belichick tree that usually bears rotten fruit... But that's just me

That's the comment you're flipping out about Nick... And no where in that comment did I say O'Brien would be a failure and nothing in that comment was not true. So to answer your question _ No...

The other thing people need to remember about PeePee - he was univerally hailed as the championship difference maker by a lot of fans... which, if you'll recall, a lot of us had troubling wrapping our heads around since he had, like, six times as many one-and-dones as he did Super Bowls.

Sure enough, three years in Denver: 0 championships, 2 more one-and-dones. People want to villify Schaub and what a terrible decision it was - well, he has one less playoff victory than Manning in the same three-year stretch, two of which, Schaub didn't even make the playoffs.

PeePee is the greatest regular season QB I've ever seen. He is a decidedly lesser version in January. If the idea is to go from 8-9 to 11-12 wins, sign me up -Manning is the guy. But don't tell me, then, now, or ever that Peyton Manning gets you over the playoff hump.

Agreed. Same people complain about the Barkely trade in similar fashion.

Oh, I think we agree that it wouldn't be the right move now. I just think that the potential reward for the gamble pays off differently now than 3 years ago. I just think it's reasonable that someone would approach the circumstances now differently than back then. To me, those 3 years matter. I'm not going to fault someone for judging the situation somewhat differently in 2015.

In this scenario does Schaub still develop the same way? Because I doubt you'd have anyone considering it the 'wrong decision' if so.

Also, what level of 'gutting' of the roster do you think we were looking at?

still better than the circus that's played out since then.

It wouldn't matter, we'd have people saying that we should have drafted someone like Russell Wilson or traded up for RG3 (insane as that would have been) instead of going with a has been playoff choker. The group that wants to whine and complain will always find reasons to whine and complain.

Personally I think the Texans are in a better position to win a SB before the Broncos given their current state about to face full on rebuilding.

Yep. And everybody needs to stop completely stomping all over the timeline. This was *after* the 2011 season, in which the Texans went 10-6 and were, many thought, a healthy Schaub away from playing New England for the AFC championship. Meanwhile, PeePee hadn't played football for literally a year because of the strike and then this small, probably outpatient procedure called **spinal fusion surgery**.

No one knew Schaub was going to regress the way he did; no one knew Manning would even be able to play, let alone start smashing records. People can SAY they knew... but NO ONE knew.

Another thing people can't keep pretending didn't happen, or making up alternate realities: the Broncos paid PeePee a TON of money. I guess you could conveniently argue he was going to give us a discount - but why would he do that for us and not Denver? The Broncos gave him a 5-year, $96MM contract - again, with no idea he could even play football. And this was the offseason in which we traded Ryans and cut Winston to get under the cap and sign Arian Foster (and Chris Myers, too, IIRC).

At the time - 2012 offseason - the Texans' decision was 1000% justified.

Meanwhile, in Texans land, Matt Schaub was coming off **lis franc surgery**.

You probably overvalued Schaub. He fell off hard because Kubiak's smoke & mirrors stopped working. You're right, "NO ONE" can predict the future, but give me Manning over Schaub any day.

Yea, Rick's horrible cap management made this a huge road block.

All decisions are "1000% justified". There are right/wrong decisions. There are good/bad decisions. Houston's decision played out as the wrong/bad decision.

If Peyton's up for it, I'm absolutely in the camp of welcoming him to Houston for next season.

I only blame Rick for the horrible drafts and poor salary cap management. Oh yea, I've never seen a bigger brown nose in my life. That too.

Schaub stopped working; Kubiak's system still obviously works. Flacco just completed his best season as a pro, Justin Forsett rushed for 1,200+ yards and the Ravens went from 20 pts/game in '13 to 25.9 pts/game.

All things equal, of course - but things were not equal in 2011.

The absolute worst case scenario played out - Schaub crumbled, Manning proved healthy and played awesome. I don't think the Texans made a bad decision; I think they made an informed decision handicapped by several unknowns that were impossible to predict. People can - and will - gripe, well, about any Texan decision. But passing on Manning and his neck to run Schaub out there was highly defensible in 2011/12.

I think you're focusing too much on the downside of signing Manning. The upside if it works out was that you get one of the best QBs in the history of the game and are immediately probably the best team in the NFL.

That's not to say the Texans should have signed Manning - there are reasons it wouldn't have worked. Perhaps they wouldn't be able to sort out the money, or the neck really was a problem. But there's absolutely no excuse to not even explore the idea or talk to him or go see him throw and talk to doctors. Denver did it, but as you said, it was relatively low risk to replace Tebow. But San Fran did it too, coming off an NFC Title appearance with a QB that was very, very good that year.

The Texans, historically, are a risk-averse franchise. That can be a good or a bad thing, but when the upside is what it was, I think it's crazy to not even consider the possibility, regardless of who's feelings might be hurt or whatnot.
