The problem is I remember several short passes turned into long gains. Y/a and long passed through the air are what should be looked at. I know its rare but some are better than others. Fitz isn't one of the good ones

is jason la canfora from houston? he reminds me of that chicago writer that always wanted to make that tmac trade to chicago happen.
Nothing new at all about that. It's been known for nearly 3 years that this was the case. Pretty pathetic that the FO didn't have the balls to shake things up in order to push for a 'ship tho.
Is this really breaking news? The Broncos ended up being the best situation for him, from a cap standpoint (they had more cap room to offer him a bigger salary), and flexibility/talent standpoint. Texans were pretty capped out even without the Schaub extension. And there's still Wade's regressing defense to worry about... it's not a lock that Manning would have done better with the Texans than he did in Denver (similar to how people declare the Barkley-Rockets trade a "failure", even though they made the WCF and stayed a playoff team despite their core being 35 years/older).
I think everyone in Houston knew this, but an outside source just confirms that possibility. Wade would've been a problem but I would have liked to believe he would get canned if he kept putting up dud defenses. Can you even imagine Watt and Manning, two of the most liked players in the game? We'd get so much national exposure. Manning would have had Foster in his prime, who is a better RB than he's ever had IMO. Manning would've solidified AJ's ticket to the HOF throwing him all those TD's. Two more playoff appearances too. Just thinking about it makes me sad. Luck-Manning rivalry would have been so cool to watch.
I think there are still plenty of people that have always denied that Manning really wanted to come here. But yeah, this is still somewhat more 'news' for people outside Houston. ****ing Kubiak
I'd say screw Rick Smith for mishandling our cap situation and McNair. Who the hell passes up on Manning for Schaub???? Schaub was fool's gold and most (if not all) of us knew this. I'll take the risk that Manning would be able to recover over a perennial dud in Schaub anyday. Hindsight is 20/20 but sheesh!!
Totally agree!! Fitz's pass percentage that went for 20+ yards was also among the highest in the NFL. Unless, of course, those dont count either since someone probably caught the ball 15 yards downfield and was able to turn in an extra 5 yards...since that never happens with good QBs. But, since you bring up y/a....Fitz was ranked 4th in the NFL behind Romo, Rodgers, and Big Ben. Let me guess...his sample size of 13 games was too small, he should have played 16.
I'm so tired of hearing about this....Manning no doubt went on to win multiple SB's with the team he went to instead....oh wait, that didn't happen, so who cares?
If that team that went to the playoffs for the first time had a healthy Schaub, I sincerely think the Texans could've at least made it to the Superbowl if not win it.
I think this year's Arizona team is claiming that as well... Also, as far as Manning to Houston is concerned, people here don't remember the serious doubts EVERYBODY had about his neck. It is amazing what he was actually able to do for the last two years, to not only get back to where he was... but exceed his previous production in many ways (thanks to pass-happy rules). Denver took a major risk.... there's also the tidbit that they were willing to offer more $$$ than any other team could. Denver will be at a major cross-roads again once he retires (with no more SB wins than the Texans have... along with a SB loss that was so embarrassing that Denver fans don't even mention that feat). They may get Kubiak, trade for a backup QB with potential, and officially become the Denver Texans (while the Texans officially become New England/Happy Valley South).
Did the Texans have a cap situation at that time...? I think they had the cap space and they also have a cap guy. McNair and Kubiak just didn't want him. Ricky wanted Manning, but why should anyone listen to the GM... From my understanding Ricky Smith didn't have any concerns about his neck. At least not enough concerns to not want to bring him in.
Hell no. Not the Peyton Manning I saw last night, that guy sucks now. He's done. Why would O'Brien kill his coaching career with him? Makes no sense, we need to be going younger not old, weak and inaccurate
Peyton here would have been even better than he's been in Denver if you can imagine that. We play indoors and Peyton is notorious for playing poorly outdoors. Nice climate controlled playoff games here in Houston.
It wouldn't have been the Texans way. Bob McNair is a swell guy who is loyal. Nothing is more important to Bob's Football franchise than doing things the right way with good guys.
They didn't have as much cap space to offer him the deal Denver gave him... manning would have to have taken less. They're in a very similar spot now as they were then, except there's an even bigger void at QB... and even then, there would still be doubts about whether they should give Manning big money now (and the concerns about him being "done" now are very much the same sentiments, possibly less-so, then the concerns about him being "done" in 2012).
We most likely would have had to either cut or restructure a ton of guys. Also, we're talking about a team that went 11-1 immediately after all of that. Hindsight is always 20/20, but we would've been shaking up the best team in the AFC for that stretch.
