I never played football, but how would a blocker on a punt return know how good/bad/or in which direction the punt actually went. How would he even know if his returner called for a fair catch?

It might be true. But injuries can also make it look that way. After about 4 games this season, people were saying Tom Brady might be done and reporters asked Belicheck if he was considering a QB change. Things can change quickly both ways.

It is the inconsistance I think he KNOWS what he wants to do .. . but the Body is not cooperating I think the season grind is too much for him Maybe limiting his minutes would help Rocket River

They are relevant and I get your point. But if a gunner needs to give time and enough space for a returner to cleanly catch the ball, then the rule should apply to the blocker in front of him. You shouldn't be able to push him into the returner while he is trying to catch a ball (fair catch or not). Awareness has nothing to do with it.
