The last 10 games, which is exactly the game Josh came to Houston, we have made some huge improvements (and would've been higher had Josh stayed coming off the bench), but here are some very positive signs: - We have gone from 27th in scoring (25.4 average) to averaging 35.7 which would be tied for 6th at the moment and is 13th in the league over that stretch! - We have gone from dead last in FG% at .396 to 8th with .455 - We have gone from 24th in assists and and 10th in steals, to 8th and 4th over this stretch. - We have gone from dead last in efficiency to 15th over this stretch. - We have gone from .343 to .393 in 3p% in the last 10 games Source: http://www.hoopsstats.com/basketball/fantasy/nba/teamstats/15/7/ftpct/6-1 I'm sure we will be even better when the new guys are used to each other and there is a set rotation over the next few weeks.
I also feel like Josh Smith and Corey Brewer are players you can't fully capture in stats. Josh's blocks are momentum-changing things of beauty for example. To see them only credited as one block hurts me sometimes. And Brewer's ball-hawking is for sure causing offences to hesitate and think twice every time they pass the ball. All this to say that the bench is good, but it might be even better than what we give it credit for.
Better days are ahead as the Rockets continue to gel. What you see now is going to be the start of something special
I hope we don't become the clear favorites. I feel like if that happens, when we win a ring everyone says "yeah, you were supposed to with all that talent" It would be much better to win a ring as an underdog. Ie, detroit's one ring vs the lakers was more amazing for the fans than Miami's two with Lebron
I'll take it any way I get it. Not going to feel bad if I win a million dollars from the lottery vs working for it.
but we lost two games in the standings to GSW and Portland during that stretch. OP, thx for the stats. So, you agree that we shouldn't shake up the starting lineup (not counting trades), since the bench is building chemistry.
I can honestly say I am excited when the bench unit comes in. They have been playing really well lately, and bring a lot of energy. I'm really liking the Brewer addition, so I hope we don't get rid of him later. Once we get chemistry down, the league better watch out. I'm still wondering how T Jones will fit in the rotation though...?
You make decent points but do you have to create a new post every day? I disagree entirely with the premise that Josh Smith is responsible for our bench numbers improving. I'd like to look at his production versus other members of the bench. One can't deny that Brewer has added more to the Rockets than Smith. We'd also have to consider that our starters have been healthy and we've played weak competition.
Good to see. And with increased playing time and the return of TJones, the bench will only get better. Starters Howard D-Mo Ariza Harden Beverly Rotational Bench Players TJones Smith Brewer Terry Bench Depth Dorsey Papanikolaou Shved End of Bench Guys Capela Johnson Canaan
Josh Smith is changes the momentum. If the Rockets can keep that energy bottled up in a positive manner versus Beverly's missed layups is a negative momentum changer our bench should continue to be a major jolt in production especially when Jones comes back on the scene.
