Doesn't matter, people had made up their minds that Fitz was the worst thing ever, so no eye test (PFF), no advanced stats (football outsiders), and no normal stats (9th in qb rating and 4th in YPA) will convince them otherwise.

Funny that Fitz ranks decently in all categories, but he's lucky to be a backup NFL QB.

Because the wanted to see what they had in Mallett, they had to make time for him to play in order to decide if they should give him a new contract or not. They thought he might be an upgrade, he did well one game and then was absolutely terrible the next due to injury.

Anyway, just say that you don't care what the numbers are unless they say what you want them to and we can move on.

Yea... Then why did O'Brien bench him for a dude who hasn't completed more than a couple of passes in the NFL. Fitzpatrick ranks in the top 10 in the F'up category which makes all of his other stats meaningless.

    That's a ridiculous explanation.

We still could have made the playoff

Football outsiders have them ranked #8... Indy's line is ranked #7. But I think the Texans ranking may have more to do with Foster because of play action and Indy's offensive line ranking has more to do with Luck. http://www.footballoutsiders.com/stats/ol

Just the same O'Brien fired the O-Line coach as soon as possible and replaced him.... I guess that means O'Brien doesn't agree with those rankings.

He fired the coaches not the players. Seems he thinks they can do even better.

We didn't run much play action. Can you really see Fitz rolling out and hitting guys on the move

The off-season along with the draft haven't got here yet. So some of those players may not be safe.

Just bc BOB makes a decision doesn't mean it's the correct decision. BOB got off to a very rocky start as a coach, but he progressively improved his play calling as the season wore on. That was very evident to anyone that watched. Fitz not only had to deal with a lackluster offensive line early in the year, but he also had to deal with some poor play calling.

In retrospect, had Fitz never been benched, the chances of the Texans making the playoffs would have been greatly enhanced.

To answer your question, the Fitz benching came after Fitz had his worst game of the year while we were heading into a bye week. If there was ever a time to make a switch, that was the time that made the most sense. BOB had carried a boner for Mallett since Day 1, so he was just waiting for the moment to make the move... And after we lost to Sanchez bc of Fitz's poor performance, it resulted in a benching.

Fitz played terrible in the Giants game and Eagles game...but outside of those, he was a pretty decent QB for the Texans. At least, much better than he gets credit for. And every test (eye test, advanced stat) backs that up.

Outside of all of the games Fitz played, he played great!

    He sucked in Pitt too.

Threw an int inside our 20 at the end of the half.

He also got injured because he's too dumb to slide and think he can run like Can Newton

Fitz, is what he is. not sure why we need to argue about him because we are not making a deep playoff run with him at the helms. We got ok production out of him.

    I agree with you.

But there was a narrative going around that the rest of the Texans were holding Fitz back

Then how do you explain Fitz being ranked #13 in DVOA?

I think the offense was very well structured for him and initially caught teams off-guard. But it wasn't going to last, and it didn't.

He was really poor under the eye test. PFF gives him to much credit for scrambles (which eventually caused a broken leg) and tipped interceptipns (which aren't bad luck, they are a feature of Fitz).

A lot of these ol guys will be around a while. Fitz won't.

So FO is wrong? Does that mean they could be wrong about the pass blocking O line too? Maybe they were giving the O line too much credit for Fitz's scrambles....Nah, everyone but Fitz was awesome and Fitz was terrible.

Well it was an outlier year statistically for Fitz. That should tell you something.

Guys his age don't get better

No, it wasn't an outlier and his improvement in production was very predictable. Before the season I said just as much...he played in Buffalo, cold weather and wind, with lack of talent around him. Obviously, he'd do better, just as any QB would.

Put Flacco in Buffalo and he'd suck. Same with about 25 other starting Qbs.

Good, the proof is in the pudding... If he really has improved so drastically and is the 13th best QB in football, there will be a half dozen teams trying to trade for him....
