Shved has a lot of potential and what I like about his game is that he can get to the rack with ease. Has a quick first step.

McHale is trying to change Shved's face? I think having Bev on the same team is helping as well.

The Rockets will need a real ball distributor off the bench and Shved can help with that. I'd like to see some of his play on the court to see how that goes.

Shved is needed. Hopefully he can be a playmaker at the pf position. We desperately need that. Ideally bev is a bench player.

Bev can't playmake to save his life.

Ricky is jealous of Shaved's pretty face.

In the absence of any established pg, we might as well try Alexey if McHale won't play Canaan. I am not disparaging Bev, but we desperately need a traditional pg who on occasion will break the defense and try to create easy baskets for other players.

We are winning strictly based on talent, specifically when Harden goes in gawd mode. That will not work in the playoffs and against teams with good defenses, as Harden will be limited by double teams. So, the Rockets MUST develop an option for those situations.

The current starting lineup is flawed. Other than Harden, and to a lesser extent D-Mo, nobody can create their own shot. It is no wonder that, oftentimes, the offense created by Brewer, Smith and Terry looks so much more fluid.

The hope here is that the Rockets will have this fixed this soon.

OP made the mistake of drafting Canaan on his fantasy league team and that is why he wants him to play so bad.

With his contract its going to be tough for Morey to keep this kid out of trade talks for the trade deadline. I wouldn't get too attached to him.

Still, I think much like with McHale's liking to Parsons early in his career, he's really intrigued with the size aspect at his position to add more versatility to their lineup.

Keep in mind, the Rockets philosophy on defense is to switch everything. That's a problem with small guards, or slow footed bigs. The fact that Shved can switch onto 3 different positions has McHale's attention. In McHale's mind, its probably a big chance to upgrade from the heavy Terry or Canaan rotations.

I've liked the kid ever since he really carried that depleted Russian national team a few years ago. You take the gloves off of him, and run some offense through him, and you can see he's got some talent, and great competitive spirit. But like I said... its going to be tough to keep him out of trade discussions in February cause of his contract. Still, there is always a chance Morey doesn't make a move at all if the right players do not become available.

I just don't see where he fits in... We have a solid 9 man rotation right now, who's he gonna take minutes from??

You always have to get playing time for your players. You have to see what you have before you miss an opportunity. I'd bet that not only is McHale fine with this, but also if he wasn't it would be a Morey directive.

Me too. We don't want TJ stomping on him and cause nerve problems again.

It's probably mostly going to be some of Terry's pg playing time.

Shved has the 12th best PER among all qualified PGs in the league.

    Pat 36th
    Canaan 40th

He's doing something right when he's out there.

Don't understand how McHale's quotes inspired the thread title. OP is clearly biased.

    A couple points.

First the point guard glut will likely be gone. Terry is likely to be gone and Canaan may be too.

Second, McHale wants size in the backcourt. He has asked Morey for more size come playoff time the last two years.

Third, he can defend and draw fouls, something the Rockets value.

Alex Shved is really good player, but his legs bad atm. I saw yesterday vs Jazz he even cripple when walking at the end of the game.

Let's not be so quick to shoot him down. He's got some potential

Looking at his highlights, he has great court vision.
Can make 3's (OVER KOBE. lol), penetrate and slam, or penetrate and draw in defenders and find the open man. He is looking to make things happen rather than find a shot for himself.
Look how many times he finds a man across court or sees someone under the basket for an alley-oop. A great asset in a PG. and he's what 6-5? Nice

I get frustrated with our P&R's. So many time I've seen Dmo strolling wide open down the lane and Bev won't see him or look for him. Dmo is practically waving his arms. Same with Dwight under the basket. Bev is too busy darting around like a waterbug.
I'd like to see Schved get more PT and see if he can make things happen.
His size should give opposing PG's some trouble as well

Exactly. It's gonna take some time for Shved to integrate into this team, but his size and court vision (true PG skills) give this team a dimension it does not currently have.

McHale is either Irish or Scottish and not Slavic.
