It's not simply his stats. It's his "fit" inside the offense. Does he play PnR? Does he set picks? Does he spread the floor for Harden? Does he slow the game down?

Seriously the Rox looked at their best with DMo and Tarik Black as the bigs. It was a high-octane offense. Constant movement. Didn't they win like 6 in a row with that lineup?

That being said, it'd be hard to trade the guy. I doubt Morey would do it.

Whats ridiculous is you calling him the best defensive big in the league! Thats laughable since it was his horrible defense agains Gasol, Davis, and Horford that has lost us several games...

I could probably name 5 bigmen better at defense than Dwight atm.

    Davis
    Chandler
    Gobert
    Gasol
    Noah

    Thats not even looking hard..

If we want to actually have a real chance at a title, then we do need someone as good as "Good Dwight."

We don't win a ring without Howard.

I said in a different thread, but Howard doesn't seem like the kind of post player you can just give randomly and expect him to score.

When we constantly feed him, he produces then in the post. It lets him get into a rhythm.

When he dominated in the playoffs he averaged over 17 shots a game. He's getting too little now.

It maybe worth losing a couple of games in the short term to get Dwight going. We aren't going to win a ring unless Dwight get's going.

I don't know whether to laugh or feel disappointed in these threads anymore.

Trade/cut everyone! 3rd in the conference??? Rebuild time screw this!

Hes still our best option despite under-performing and there is no option to trade him for anyone that could possibly replace what he does so enough already!

I don't realisticly expect a trade, I just wanted to get everyones thoughts on the fact that we may be stuck with bad Dwight for the remainder of his contract. And that his current production is easily replaceable at a fraction of his contract.

    Pretty much this.

All-Star break should give everyone more than enough rest to hopefully alleviate some of the issues.

Funny, I must be if ppl with 1,000+ post on a basketball forum think Dwight is the best defensive big in the league...

What about my statement deserves such a tongue-in-cheek response?

best defensive big in the league, what? he's never been 100% for the entire season, got shut down by gasol. he's no longer the best center in the league. if he cant get healthy and this is the dwight howard rockets get from now on then he's a huge bust with his contract. he's been playing like a role player since he came back from his knee injury

Yeah we needed Orlando Tmac and 3rd year Yao Ming as well.

Those are little dreams and wishes and not reality tbh with you.

Not really. We saw not "Good Dwight", but "Dominant Dwight" in the playoffs. Not like it's impossible to expect him to play like that or somewhat like that again.

The point is we have no choice either way-- just like we didn't have a choice with Yao and McGrady. We had to bet on these guys even as each of them experienced injuries at various points because we not gonna trade either of them for a healthier player who was nearly as good as each of them was. This is why Morey went and got Ron Artest for 2008-2009: he had to bet on TMac and Yao had a chance of being healthy enough in the playoffs to take the team deep when given some help.
All he could do was to bet on "win now" and hope for the best. Nobody was giving him a healthy elite player for either Yao or McGrady at that point.

We are stuck with Dwight. If he doesn't play well for Houston, we are not going to trade him for a player who has a better chance to take the Rockets deep in the playoffs. Hero or albatross, we don't know but we don't have a choice.

Season is long, maybe he should just play limited minutes and wait til playoffs when it's actually important

Dwight + Pel's pick for Cousins. I'd do it in a heartbeat
