See, TheFreak. Took just one post for someone to pull the cybrex/Dragic card on you, as if no one gets traded off the team to get him. uh, it's going to take a DMo to land Dragic this season.
It's very unlikely Morey trades D-Mo. That would be terrible. He's too important to his team. He needs to be more heavily featured on offense.
Be careful what you wish for....the Rockets tonight sit on top of the toughest division in the NBA. They are integrating three new players into the rotation...and still winning...virtually without practices. There is no need to make trades now...roll with what we have for the next two weeks and then let's see.
Getting a Dragic THIS YEAR is not going to help this team. It would be a move for the future. Just look at how disrupted the team is from adding Brewer and Smith. This isn't fantasy basketball.
Actually this team benefitted immediately from Brewer and his acquisition didn't hurt chemistry at all seeing as how we had no real back up sf (papa was mainly playing the 4) and guys were playing out of position to cover that spot. Smith. Eh. I'm still not convinced that was a good move by Morey and it messed with chemistry a lot to start out with. Getting Dragic this year would make this team much more fluid on offense. We'll need that a lot come playoff time.
It's not that Beverley and Ariza want to play ISO. It's the team-wide lack of movement without the ball. I feel that many fans are just fantasy league players. All they care about the players are the numbers they procude.
Start Canaan and have Bev come off the bench. Canaan is a decent enough defender. Terry can split the minutes with Bev.
The new additions are doing great. Smith has found his comfort zone coming off the bench. And Brewer's been a fantastic pickup. The reason the Rockets are struggling lately is that Dwight doesn't seem mentally engaged most of the time and Ariza and Bev can't throw it in the ocean on most nights(unless they're playing the Knicks). When 60% of your starting lineup is either not trying or can't shoot, you're going to have bad starts and bad finishes. Bev has shot pretty well from 3 most of the year, so maybe he will come out of his slump eventually. The Steve Francis impersonation he's doing lately with the dribbling around the perimeter has gotta stop though. As for Ariza, I don't know if we can call this a slump. He's been stinking it up from 3-point land almost the entire season other than the first 10 days or so.
Well if you read the rest of my post, you would know that I'm more than fine with the current roster. If we get Dragic, then that's great, but if we don't then that's fine too. The current roster has enough talent. The rotation just needs to be fixed up.
The team was disrupted for like 3 games. Seems like everything is fine now and by the time playoffs come around, the team is will be great. Getting Dragic wouldn't hurt the team's flow as much as you think. Dragic is a smart player, he wouldn't take too long to adjust his play.
for some reason, I really like this dyslexic spelling of produce. It should be a word. Why you no procude more, MilkHair.
Yeah, like we can get Dragic for nothing. We aren't getting Dragic this year without trading away an important piece. That's a chemistry issue. If PHO makes us trade DMo for Dragic, do you not think there will be a chemistry issue? Often overlooked stat: Rox record after trading for Drexler 17-19
All i know is that the Suns will lose Dragic whether we get him or not. Once Feb 19th rolls around, you will see him on the trade block.
Pretty sure they won a 'ship after trading for Drexler. Of course we will have to give up pieces to obtain Dragic. Maybe they'll ask for D-Mo, but Markieff has been pretty dependable for them this year, so it wouldn't surprise me to see him stay. I could see Brewer or Pap being moved. Maybe Jones. That combined with NOP 1st round and the Knicks 2nd round that I believe we currently have. Should get us in the conversation. I wouldn't mind that trade, would you?
Here are the Rockets first quarter outputs since Dwight came back from injury. http://www.basketball-reference.com/teams/HOU/2015_games.html Denver - 31 Houston - 21 Denver - 29 Houston -25 NO - 21 Houston - 22 Atlanta - 32 Houston - 26 Portland - 33 Houston - 37 Memphis - 31 Houston - 24 SA - 28 Houston - 33 Washington - 24 Houston - 27 Charlotte - 25 Houston - 23 NO - 29 Houston - 20 Miami - 27 Houston - 23 Chicago - 34 Houston - 33 Cleveland - 23 Houston - 26 NY - 22 Houston - 27 The Rockets were outscored in the first quarter (with primarily the starters playing) in 8 out of 14 of these games. The Rockets were a -22 in the first quarter during this time. By this, I mean that the Rockets were outscored by 22 total points in the first quarter over this stretch. It's easy to try and blame this on Morey bringing in new players. There are many posters who love doing that, but this team has had issues for a while. Out of the starting line-up Beverley is the weakest link. Harden and D-Mo are the two most consistent and important players for the Rockets all season long. Dwight is Dwight. Even playing hurt (I assume he's doing this), his impact is immeasurable. Ariza's defense is scary good. Jbasket's analysis confirms this. The rotation needs a bit of a shake up.
sigh you know the point I was making. Rox were in disarray before and after the trade, and ppl like to remember we were a well oiled machine since we won. Fact is: we weren't. not even close. it took legendary heroics by Hakeem to get that title. We don't want to go 17-19 after trading for Dragic, like we did after trading for Drex.
Haha I understand your point, it's just that Drexler ended up being important for the team, especially in the playoffs, which is all that really mattered. The worst part of that Drexler trade is that it resulted in him becoming a Rockets commentator lol. I understand the effect a trade would have on the team, but consider the pieces I mentioned, Brewer, Pap, Jones, Cannan. Trading these guys would not affect the rotation all that much. As I said earlier, we would probably choose between Brewer or Pap, not both. We could even trade Beverly instead of Canaan to entice the Suns. Chemistry wouldn't take a very big hit. If D-Mo is included in the deal, which obviously could happen, then I would reject the trade. He's too important to the chemistry we have developed this season. I think we could get Dragic in a deal that would allow us to keep D-Mo and if that could happen, I would be in full support of the trade. But I don't want to deviate too much from my original point. The current roster is honestly fine. A trade for Dragic or a trade for a legitimate back up center would be great, but it's not a necessity. With minutes being allocated in an optimal manner, this team could vastly improve on it's current play. At the end of the day, all we want to do is improve. Whether by trade or by coaching adjustments.
You do understand that the Rockets have virtual ZERO player continuity. The Rockets are essentially a "pick up" team. Morey runs players in and out of here like musical chairs. Do you know how many years the Spurs have played together? How can the Rockets "know" each other? Most have been here for only a short while. Knowing roles, learning the system (if there is one), defensive assignments, plays, etc., it all takes time. In the Morey era, our teams don't stay together long enough to have any sense of familiarity. And if past experience is any predictor of the future, the Rockets won't be the same by the end of the season.
They started this tradition of player continuity AFTER they became true contenders. Roster turnover until true contention is necessary because well you need to become a contender. If the Rockets kept the same team from 2009, are you saying that they would be contenders now? Of course not. We need to continue to fix the roster and the rotation until we have something work keeping.
