Fair points. I feel the same way about the playing in front of others part.

A good mix of playing with and without is probably what I'll do. You're right... playing Rocksmith is more fun because you can jump in and get started without worrying about equipment or a steep learning curve. Rocksmith even provides the full band :D

Yeah, to me it breaks guitar down to the simplest element; being able to actually play, knowing chords, finger placement, techniques, and so on. The theory, effects, and so on can come once you have all the other tools in your box. I'm not saying it's not important to learn both, they definitely have a symbiosis that allows one to enhance the other. With that said, the bottom line is I can play a guitar now. If it wasn't for Rocksmith, I don't know that I could say otherwise. The other stuff will fall in place the more I get after it.

A good site (not sure if this has been mentioned) for theory and so on is justinguitar.com.

I mentioned this on a couple of pages back I believe, but I highly recommend the fender squire affinity line. They're usually about $250 for a quality guitar + amp + strap + tuner + case + other stuff. They're also usually playable out of the box (in other words you don't need to pay a guitar tech to set it up).

I got mine from best buy for xbox 1 for $40. I had the original rocksmith on xbox360 and am using the same cable. so my new cable is still new. Totally worth it so far. I suck at guitaring but I hopes to get better soon to get all the ladies ;)

This was posted in the PRS advice thread I made the other day, but I thought it would be appreciated here. This is my new baby, I absolutely love it. I can't keep my eyes or hands off it -- my wife even approved of the expense after seeing it first hand. I've always wanted a PRS guitar (it's not perfect, I already know a few places to improve it -- thicker gauge strings, locking tuners, new pickups), and it already blows away the Fender Marauder I fixed up, even after all the work put into it.

Her grandparents bought me Rocksmith for Xbox One also, so I'll be playing on there shortly. I just need to rewire everything. Yay for motivation!

    (sorry for the massive picture)

Just a heads up if anyone is on the fence, now is a great time to jump in. The DLC library just keeps getting bigger and better. There is a request system that allows you to suggest a particular band or DLC -- fortunately Ubisoft is quite receptive and have contacted all of the top 40 vote getters. We're already seeing the fruits of that, in the past month alone they've added Rage Against the Machine, Bon Jovi, Jimi Hendrix, and this week's DLC Linkin Park.

Not to mention if you buy for Xbox One or PS4 you get the Jimi Hendrix DLC for free. (12 tracks)

Also if anyone is looking for guitar lessons, gear, techs, or whatever I cannot recommend these people enough.

    http://www.gsmmusic.com/ Great Southern Music

They're off of highway 6 and 529ish. I've been to several music stores recently and they were the friendliest, without question. They did a great job with some upgrades I requested, and completed them on time without issue. They also have a live person monitoring their website, there's a little component where you can webchat and ask them questions which blew my mind (it's a fairly small store).

I've had people talk down to me at other stores, or act like I'm bothering them just by being there (See: Infinity Guitars on Westheimer and Dairy Ashford...DO NOT GO THERE). I've had people act like I'm dumb for (again, just asking a question) based on the aesthetics of a guitar (Guitar Center on Westheimer/Voss). There's a few other highly rated luthiers around Houston, but each one of those has horror stories on their reviews where they've had someone's guitar for months and never touched it. Again, can't recommend the people at GSM enough.

Linkin Park? Holy nostalgia, gonna check that out tonight.

I believe the Jimi Hendrix DLC with Xone/PS4 is temporarily free. As in you have it for a set amount of time. No?

It may be "free" for a limited time as in you can only get it free for the next month or so, but it's permanent once you own it.

Linkin Park – “Bleed It Out” – Drop D – [XBL] / Steam
Linkin Park – “Guilty All the Same” – Drop D – [XBL] / Steam
Linkin Park – “In the End” – Eb Drop Db – [XBL] / Steam
Linkin Park – “Numb” – Eb Drop Db – [XBL] / Steam
Linkin Park – “One Step Closer” – Eb Drop Db – [XBL] / Steam
    Linkin Park – “What I’ve Done” – Drop D – [XBL] / Steam

There were some that I thought were no brainers like Somewhere I Belong or Faint, but cool tracks none the less. I don't really listen to Linkin Park anymore, but I can't deny that I'm going to buy these. I'd love to know how to play them. Numb didn't really seem like one you'd put in there considering how many points there's no guitar, but whatever it seems like there might be a fair amount of harmonics in it.

Bought the game, can't complain. The amount of songs I've seen in CustomsForge is amazing.

Is there a game mode other than playing songs that can accelerate learning the mechanics of the game? I have found it not that intuitive; if it were just tabs I would perform much better.

Tried the arcade games? They're quite fun. What do you mean by mechanics?

I don't know the word to describe it, I guess the system or the interface? just how notes are presented to you.
