Nuggets have a lot of dead weight on their roster that they'd like to move but it's virtually impossible for them to do so without attaching an asset like Lawson. Javale and Gallo are boat anchors at this point, both with another year left and pretty useless. Gallo, from the reports I hear, has permanent back damage that will limit his minutes/games severely throughout the remainder of his career. Javale has proven to be nothing but fouls and r****ded play. I was looking at trades earlier in the year that would have been Lawson and one of McGee/Gallo incoming for expirings and perhaps a future second rounder or lottery protected first. But right now I see no real way to accomplish those type of deals without losing Ariza and Denver taking in Ariza makes no sense. I suspect Denver would entertain offers on Lawson if they could: 1. Dump either McGee or Gallo with him. or 2. Get a lottery pick for Lawson and perhaps dump Faried (a contract extension mistake) with him. In either case, I can't see the Rox being able to generate a deal here unless it's a complicated multi-team deal and we'd likely have to lose Ariza as part of the deal. In my opinion, Denver would be best served to dump Faried at the deadline (that contract extension is a bad one) for whatever expiring or less salary deal (and possible pick if they can find another stupid team to take Faried) they can get and stand pat with Lawson and the other guys. From the Rockets standpoint....I don't think Lawson is good enough to give up the Pelicans pick for. I want a better piece than him. Nice player. Like him. But not enough there to give up the Pels pick for. I'm not willing to give up the Pels pick for Goran even. Because of the possibility of him walking. But I would consider heavily giving up the pick for Rubio....because he is signed long-term to a deal that is very palatable given the fact that the cap is set to significantly increase in 2016.
Uhh... BBH. There is a difference between Denver WANTING to move dead weight mid sized salary, and NEEDING to move dead weight mid sized salary. -They are most likely not planning on luring a max free agent in the offseason. -They are looking to be 2 million under the cap without making deals -The players they are probably going to move (Afflalo, Chandler, Arthur, and even Robinson ) are players that can have a major positive affect on a contending team. -Those players mentioned are all on essentially expiring deals. The only thing the Nuggets really need to prepare for is making room on their roster for all the young talent they are about to draft in the next two years. Now Gallo & McGee?... Yes on a cash strapped team, those are salaries you'd like to move, but it really doesn't matter for the Nuggets if they are moving some of these mid-sized deals to get under the cap this year. Both players are young enough, and have contracts short enough to come back next year and be impact players.... well... at least Gallo. The Nuggets aren't giving an asset to get rid of Gallo or McGee. They don't need to. Look for them to move Chandler & Afflalo first. They might even be able to get multiple picks for them even as short term rentals to a contending team. I wouldn't be shocked at all to see the Clippers trade their 2019 first rounder, maybe a pick swap, and a 2nd rounder for Chandler or Afflalo. Thats probably the first obvious deal I see out there. These are the types of deals the Nuggets will see for their mid-sized guys. If the Rockets want those guys, they can easily trump those offers. If they want Lawson or Faried.... well, they probably can't have them, but it would take a hell of alot more than just a pick or two.
This is the only part of that post I disagree with. I think that IF Morey were to bring Dragic in , he'd be doing so with every intention of keeping him even at a max deal , otherwise you don't make the trade. He'd be the starter on a contending team in a city he has already stated he would consider in FA. You'd have him Bird Rights so able to offer the most $$ and an extra year. We saw this summer how important that is when Melo & Bosh both made the decision to stay with much worse teams for the extra $$$. Prior to making that deal you'd have to have discussions with Dragic on his willingness to resign with the team and likely have an agreement in place. If he's ready & willing to sign an offer you are comfortable with , pull the trigger. If not , it drives the price you are willing to pay down and you adjust your offer accordingly or just walk away.
Fri, Jan 9 Danny Ainge has reportedly informed Brandan Wright that he's on the trading block, and he should expect to be with another team. Advice: Wright just doesn't fit in Boston, and a trade away from the crowded five-big rotation could only be seen as a positive for Wright. However, he'll likely be destined for a backup role wherever he lands, so his upside will be limited. Wright isn't really worth owning as the last guy to come off the bench for the Celtics, but he'll be a name to watch at the trade deadline. Stay tuned.
Ainge is going to be WANTING to GET picks & assets in exchange for Wright. Not the other way around. Portland makes alot of sense in a Wright trade, and they have all of their 1st rounders. OKC is a team I wouldn't be shocked to see them trade him to. They could send a 2017 first rounder & send back Perkins to get themselves under the lux tax. (we all know OKC is dying to get under). Heck, I'd even say to watch out for the Spurs. Splitter has been very meh this year, and they have all their picks. ...... I think the Rockets would love to have Wright to add to their big man rotation, but I think they have bigger issues at the guard spot. Sounds like PG is what they are saving all their assets for to cash in on. Trading for Wright probably isn't high priority given what they'd have to give up to get him and how much he'd be playing with D-Mo & Smith playing large roles.
What is the honest assessment on Wright again defensively? I know he is pretty quick on the offensive end and finishes at a high rate but I don't remember him being too great of a defender.
I don't know if it has been mentioned, but it seems obvious after trading Mozgov that we will find out soon if the Nuggets are cleaning house, and if so I think Ty Lawson should be on our radar.
If you add Wright for say a first and Shved then it opens up a little bit more of a possibility to trade DMo for Dragic. A big man stable of Howard, Smith, DMo, Jones, and Wright is crazy depth. If nothing else Wright is a huge upgrade over Dorsey.
First trade shved and 2 2nd rounders for Brenden Wright Then: http://espn.go.com/nba/tradeMachine?tradeId=le5ozlv Rockets send NOP pick to Phoenix and Knicks 2nd rounder to Denver.
You must be from North Carolina. Why would we want Brandon Wright? He is very average and has never even approached his potential. Brandon Knight instead of Brandon Wright would be a very different story.
I'm about to blow your minds with a 100% realistic 12 player 3 team trade. Terry, Jones, Capela, Johnson, Dorsey and Pelicans 1st for Bosh Motiejunas, Brewer, Papanikolaou, Canaan, Shved and multiple future 1st for Dragic Then sign Dalembert to vet min. PG: Dragic / Beverley SG: Harden / (Dragic) SF: Ariza / (Smith) PF: Bosh / Smith C: Howard / Dalembert 8 man rotation, rest of the team can be d-leaguers and vets. And I know, I should be our GM.
Dorsey, bad as he is, is a center. Wright, bad as he is, is a 210-lb SF. Our SF and even PF positions are filled. We need a backup center or a PG / SG upgrade. Wright just doesn't fit in anywhere to our advantage.
