And there is a large group of people trying to reverse this trend. That's what I have a problem with.

In context, that 0.1% is consistently interpreting the religion as a means to kill ALL over the world. Incidents are weekly, just a few weeks ago there were 3 incidents in a row of muslims killing pedestrians in France while screaming Allahu Akbar. Even though it is a small faction of muslims carrying out unspeakable acts that the majority may or may not believe in, the majority are allowing them to get away with it. It won't stop unless they take accountability and put resources into squashing this medieval form of thought.

This is where Bill Maher is right though. Surveys and scientific polls of non American Muslims show some pretty frightening numbers. There are more that support this stuff than you would believe.

    Yep.

Most people would not kill someone for insulting their religion, even if their religion told them to.

Murder is serious business. And when the rubber meets the road, most people aren't willing to go that far.

There are enough people, however, who *are* willing to go that far, that having a book supposedly written by God that tells people to do that is a really, really bad idea.

    Not really.
All criticisms of any war we've ever been in are about how we have profited from said war. People do not like to hear that war X was an oil grab.

People will accept killing people in the name of freedom and justice in the states though.
Our most justified and revered wars are the ones where you shoehorn the ideals of freedom into it.
And you can make all of our wars seem noble and justified if you paint it as a liberation of people from (communism/oppression/etc.).

Par down the ones that don't interpret the religion that way, then the ones who chose to ignore it.

But then consider those that are cowards to do what they feel is "right", then those that are scared to plan with others then those who cannot get the needed AK-47 rifles. Sort of a reverse drake equation, and use it to determine fanatics. The fact that the paper was attacked several times says a lot.

Thumbs, I thought you had passed away from diabetes or something.

I guess you have just been devoting your life to working for Louie Gohmert and the Tea Party.:)

France is pretty adamant about free speech and democracy.

The more ridiculous a religion is, the more radical defense it's promoters tend to take because if you don't defend it with threats and violence it's absurdity is more readily debunked .... looking at you scientologist.... inquisition Catholics.
When you are fighting logic, science, egalitarianism and freedom you are eventually going to lose. It's the lost cause that resorts to totalitarianism. If you can't win with logic, you suppress it's expression.

Thanks for the support, Det. However, glynch and I are like geriatric boxers -- my right jabs matched against his lefts. Unlike CometsWin, glynch is not personally mean spirited, just politically mean spirited. He likes strongmen like the Castro brothers or the late Hugo Chavez to do the national thinking rather than individuals (tea partiers, in particular). Oh well, we have at least 15 to 20 more years of ring time before our bells are finally rung.

Now back to the actual thread topic.

The book was not written by God, it was written by people listening to a guy saying he was talking to an angel.....

At least Moses was talking to God as a burning bush - that is a lot more creative, and now you can burn bush in Colorado and even inhale.

Ah, the joys of religion, bushes, and allegorical stories....

I don't think multiculturalism per se is the problem. The problem is letting huge amounts of people in who are followers of an ideology that is absolutely not compatible with a western democracy, western values and a western legal system, and not doing anything to prevent a ghettoization of these people, and having Islamists like Erdogan controlling them from outside, telling them "assimiliation is a crime". The USA did a much better job in that regard.

Also, you can't let folks implement their own laws - you almost have to force integration into people at an early age with schools and exposure to things outside their religion.

That should be the price of admittance to the country.
