I could see it. Deadline comes......... Dragic isn't moved or moved to another club... Rondo is already gone and no one else is available..... Williams can play off ball or run the point and at 28-30 minutes a night can be kept fresh. Morey has long liked Williams. Morey is like that dork in high school that had a crush on the hot, big titted blonde everyone wanted to pork. 10 years later at a bar, you strike out on picking up the 21 year old hot waitress named Summer or Cheyenne... But looky over there.... There is that big titted blonde from high school you liked...... now she has a pot belly, reeks of cigarette smoke and has two kids.... she wasn't your first choice to bone, but it beats driving home alone in an alcohol and speed ball induced stooper.
Terry, Papa, Schved and Tjones would work salary wise for Deron Williams. I could see that, but not convinced Deron Williams is enough of a difference maker anymore.
I really don't want to give up the Jet for leadership purposes. His veteran leadership has been significant.
With Williams contract, he seems like he would be a negative asset right now. Like, the Nets would be willing to throw him away if they could. Since Morey puts a big emphasis on "value" on trades, I can't see a trade being put together to match salary that doesn't throw away nice pieces from the Rockets side of the equation, only to get back Williams, his bad salary and spotty play. It might be different if the Nets has 1st round picks they could attach to him, but they don't. They are all in Boston.
Yeah it's hard for me to believe Morey would target him at this point, but who knows. He's not a great player anymore at all and in order to get him you have to move every chip you have in terms of contracts.
The only thing I will say about Williams, is that the KINGS were supposedly somewhat interested. Maybe if there was a 3 team trade with BKN, SAC, ROX, where Williams goes to SAC, assets go to BKN and Collison comes to the ROX, I could perhaps see the Rockets interest in that (assuming guys like Dragic and Lawson etc are off the table).
Deron Williams, 30 years old, downside of career, two years left on his monster contract. There aren't many players with less chance to become a Rocket this season.
I don't think that's funny. I agree. Trading for Williams would be a horrible move that could effectively kill this team's title hopes if he winds up being injured or ineffective. Remember, Morey and Les have already essentially saddled this team with McHale as its coach for at least another couple years thanks to that unnecessary 3-year extension. And had they had their way, we'd be stuck with a hobbled Melo or unmotivated and occasionally injured Bosh taking up over 20 mil under the cap for the next 4 years.
