Do we still want Brandon Wright or nah? http://www.csnwashington.com/basket...ing-tip-wizards-keep-allen-nelson-birch-focus
4. Brandan Wright is available. Boston Celtics president Danny Ainge has informed the 6-10 center that he's on the block and should expect to be on another team. That's why Wright had a head-scratching DNP this week on a team that could use his skill set. The Wizards would have to execute a trade to bring him on board and he has an expiring contract that pays $5 million. Given Boston's point-guard situation -- traded Rajon Rondo and now Marcus Smart is learning the job and Evan Turner isn't a natural at distributing -- they believe that Wright doesn't fit despite 72.4% field-goal shooting. Wright running the floor with John Wall or in the half-court with Andre Miller? Still not likely, but it would make for a fantastic highlight reel. A big who can step out to slow down the pick-and-roll like Wright's old teammate, Tyson Chandler of the Mavericks, and recover to shade the rim is invaluable. The Wizards would have to match salary but players of this caliber aren't expected to be available because the demand far outweighs the supply.
I don't think they'd take Dorsey's 2 year deal though it's not that much. You'd have to sweeten it more for them to do that I think. My guess is it'll take at least 2 quality 2nd rounders to get it done. At most a very late 1st if you try to tack on a player like dorsey with additional salary beyond this year.
Shved, canaan, NYK 2nd I think definitely gets it done but that's an all in move for morey. Sacrificing the future for a win now move since wright is likely a rental unless DM has the moves planned to keep him for the long term which affects his ability to keep players like brewer, KPap, Terry or the ability to offer a larger contract for a guy like Dragic if that's in the works
Not till the deadline when Shved can have his contract combined with other players. I think the teams looking to trade for Wright (OKC, SAS, Port) will want him ASAP and I don't blame them. I think the Rockets are setup to do something bigger at the deadline given the contracts Morey made an effort to acquire (structure of Pap's deal, Terry contract, and going out of his way to get Shved contract). The emphasis on the Dec. deadline to get a Lin TPE deal done only confirms that even more. Brandon Wright (as good as he is) is not the "Big Deal" that Morey has been working on since the failed Bosh signing. Whatever Morey is working on has been brewing since this Summer. I don't think Brandon Wright is that big piece Morey has been working to acquire.
What do you guys think of Kemba Walker? I know that he is not particularly efficient on offense but I am wondering if he would be available and what role he could serve on our team? You could go either way in starting him or even bringing him off the bench. I think he would be way more efficient just being the 3rd or even 4th option.
I thought of that too but then I remembered he signed an extension, 4years - $48mill. That would probably rule him out as a possibility.
Not sure why Charlotte would trade him. They technically are still in the hunt to get the last playoff spot since it looks like Miami might be falling back a bit. The Rockets have assets sure but they don't present them realistic options for improving their team now to make a playoff push. Wouldn't be shocked to see them go after someone like Afflalo or Chandler from Denver. David Lee might also be another target for them. Walker doesn't really seem like someone they are willing to trade unless they are getting back a better offensive player from the perimeter. Doesn't seem like a fit for them. For the Rockets.... meh. I'd like him as the energy guard off the bench, but not as my 3rd best player on a contending team.
It's possible that there is no specific big deal he has been eyeing but rather wanted to be very flexible to pounce on any big deal that would come along looking for an opportunistic predator. Example: He may have hoped for Dragic, but despite the baloney insider reports, Dragic has never been made available and everything you here from PHX is that they want to keep him. Instead of him putting pieces together specifically to run at Dragic, I think it's more likely he just has a list of guys he thinks might become available and he wants the contracts necessary to snag the first one he can.
I don't believe Dorsey's 2nd year is a big deal to a team like Boston. It's doubtful that the Celtics are delusional enough at this point to believe that they are going to go out and sign a bunch of free agents next year and contend, so taking on a small salary next year is irrelevant. It may even be beneficial if they are going to strip entirely down. The Dorsey 2nd year is a big deal to teams like the Rockets that are going to be contending and will need every dollar under a potential hard cap to fit players under.
Morey would probably prefer to use his assets toward a playmaker who can be on the floor 24+ minutes rather than another big. If the price is only a 2nd and one of Paoa/Terry's contracts, then I could see it happening.
what would we give up to match ? are we getting anything good in return ? have you heard this recently ? anything else going on here or around the NBA (deng, wright) ???
