The idea that we need to tiptoe around this issue so as not to offend mulsims is just ridiculous. Muslims, or most religious people in general, have no respect for anything other than their beliefs. Most religious people don't care about offending everyone else, so it's well past time to stop caring if they are offended.

I have had it with religious people. I couldn't care less if I offend someone's religion. I think it's high time we start telling it like it is.

Religion is an attempt to impose order on chaos, the human brain is an order seeking machine. It will apply solutions to chaos even where there are none. We've evolved over the last 200,000 years with no f***ing clue what was going on in the world and universe. We are just beginning to understand the nature of our existence. How we develop a society that is self-defining, without ethnocentrism, fates beyond just this living and morality simply out of symbiosis will be an interesting experiment over maybe the next 200 years, if we live that long.

Muslim issue aside.. do you see the problem with referring to "religious people" as "them" and yourself as "we"? As in "we need to start telling it like it is"?

This doesn't seem like a foundation for compromise or productive discussion.

Like someone said, I'm afraid there's no solution for this. Ideology is ideology, whether it's religious or not.

When taken to the extreme, everyone who disagrees must be "fixed", and "we shouldn't care about them".

I see some of this in your post.

First . . . . . The Followers of Islam are not your children to be dictated to.. . . To tell them how to run their countries/families/lives etc
Second, Their countries are not your playgrounds . . to go and take what you want by hook or by crook
Third, RESPECT - give it and expect it in return
    Fourth, Let's ASK THEM . . . .

    QUESTION: Why do terrorist attack?
Don't give me that THEY HATE OUR FREEDOM crap
What are the concrete reason why you think they do?

Let's not act like our government is not a major actor and agitator around the world distablizing regimes and playing spy versus spy.

    Meh...

Fukk it, this is a good thread to drop this gem in.

They should remake the show CHEERS but with all Muslim actors from the Middle East... they shouldn't even rewrite the scripts, use the same damn scripts.

Maybe a fat Saudi named Hassan could play Norm...

    just throwing it out there.....

They tell us exactly why they do this stuff almost every single time they do it.

Seems that no one is willing to take their word on it, though.

Really? Seems to me that many Muslims, especially in the UK and EU are trying to do just that... kind of like what just happened in Paris.

You're close, but you missed it.

The reason is not because the paper made fun of things.

The reason is because their religion told them to kill people who make fun of it.

When I say "them" I am referring to anyone that puts religion as the most important thing in life. When I say "we" I am referring to non-religious people. It's not the best way to classify things, obviously, but I am at the end of my rope.

Religious people want to do whatever they want under the guise of religious freedom. I am tired of compromising on this issue. The more "we" compromise, the more religion is shoved into every aspect of life. The bottom line is that the religious fanatics will never be satisfied, so it's time to cut them out of the process entirely.

So since France has suppressed free speech before, why not apply it in this case as well? Why let these ppl continue to print such images?

Because suppressing free speech is bad.

(did I really just have to type that out?)

I believe there are about 6 million Muslims in France. 5.99+ million of them did not read that into their religion. The more accurate way to put it is that few crazy people interpreted their religion that way and convinced some other easily manipulated people that their religion told them to kill those people.

Except that religion is shoved into every aspect of life less today than at any time in human history, even though we compromise on it more than ever.

The most accurate way to put it is that 5.99+ million of them chose to ignore that part of their religion.

Cherry picking; pretty common thing in today's religions.
